Broil - To cook food directly under, or above the heat source. Food can be broiled in an oven, directly under the gas or electric heat source, or on a barbecue grill, directly over charcoal or other heat source.

Salaam,

Broil is very easy..That is when you cook something in the oven using the Heat and Flames coming FROM THE TOP..
This makes the meat CRISPY.

Most times, meat and food is cooked in the oven with the flames and heat COMING FROM THE BOTTOM.

Look into your stove--you will see a set of heat rails on the TOP and on the BOTTOM of your stove. The Top is is for Broil, the Bottom is for Bake.

Salaam

In the oven you have a top coil for cooking and the bottom coil for cooking. For baking the bottom coil is used, for broiling the top one is used, on an american oven the knob you use for setting your oven temp. would be turned all the way to broil which is usually 500 degree F

It's grill (in the oven, with the top element only, on very hot).

Not grill on a charcoal grill like you'd use outside (ie, what the rest of us mostly call barbecue, which is also a completely different thing in the US)

Food words are absolutely the most likely to get lost in translation :)

It just like grilling, only the heat source (or flame) is on top. What ever it is you want broiled you simply place under the heat source.

A broiler here in the states is like an upside down grill. The flame comes from the top. It's like cooking with a flame on a grill.
