Since us Americans do not know how that translates into pounds then the only logical response can be.......

If your child believes that she is over weight in her mind then talk to her about proper nutrition. Talk to her about exercise.
Your daughter is the one ultimately that needs to be happy with herself.
But going on fade diets, starving herself, using laxatives etc is not the proper way to lose weight and it can do a lot more harm then good.
So tell her that if she feels bad about herself and her weight then to do something constructive about it. ie the exercise and the eating healthy.
She does not have to be a fanatic about it either or spend a lot of time on it. Just cut back on the junk foods and the soda's and drinks with a lot of sugar in them. ( Drink tea with a sugar substitute or drink anything that is low in sugar.
Take walks every day and go just a little further each time. Gradually she will be jogging/running. Get her outside riding her bike, school activities that are physical.

That is the way for her to lose some weight AND feel good about herself.
It will also help with her monthly periods. They will be shorter in duration and she will bleed a lot less.
It will help with her stress level, it will help with her grades, it will help her in a lot of ways, not just with the weight issue.

So she comes out ahead in a lot of aspects in her life.

Go to this website: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

and type in her height and weight. It will calculate her body mass and determine if she really is or isn't overweight. Of course, the only real way is to check with her doctor. If he or she says that your daughter is not overweight, DON'T let her diet!! It's very unhealthy for a 12 year old girl to be cutting off any grains or proteins that are so crucial at her age.

she's not overweight! she's in the beginning of puberty and this is a time when she will be growing and gaining weight. But assure her that she is not overweight and keep an eye on her. This kind of thing is what leads to eating disorders so try to keep her focus off of food and maybe take her to a doc to tell her that she is ok for her age and height.

It depends on how tall she is and what her bone structure is. Seven stone four is about 101 pounds. When I was 13, 5'2", I weighed 103, and was a good height and weight for my age. If most of her friends are very thin, she could be feeling too large even if she isn't

if she's bigger than most of her friends, it doesn't necessarily mean that she's overweight . . she just might have a bigger body structure than them . . . I was the same when I was younger . . I was always taller and bigger than my friends . . but wasn't overweight . . just had a bigger structure . . . but if she's really concerned about her weight, she's too young to be on a diet, but I would suggest getting her involved in some physical activity . . like joining a sports team . . or just getting outside and running around for a while or riding bicycles . . get active!!

p.s. - check with a doctor to see if she is overweight . . .

Depends on her height but she would have to be less than 4ft 6ins tall to be classified just overweight in terns of her body mass index. What is important is to learn healthy eating habits while you are young, certeainly not fad diets.... or stopping eating to lose weight.
For the sake of American's there are 14lbs in one stone, 100 stone = 1 hundredweight, 20 hundredweight = 1 ton - these are British Imperial measurements. Our gallon is different to yours too.

You could get some advice from your paediatrician but at that age dieting is strongly not recommeded. Try including exercise as a hobby that she would enjoy, like swimming lessons, a team sport or dance class. Be careful that she eats healthily with plenty of fruit and vegetables and does not indulge in sweets. Maybe you could go for a daily jog or stroll with her every evening, using it as an opportunity to talk together, i still do this with my mum :)

I thought only race horses were weighed in stones. What is that in pounds? If she is worried about her weight try to have her cutback on the size food portions she eats. That should make her healthier and happier.
