I'm reading a book called Imperial Hubris right now; it's written by an intelligence analyst who has studied al-Qaeda for nearly 20 years. He says the militants in Islam are a threat to us because they perceive that we're trying to destroy Islam as they know and love it.

Islam, unlike Christianity, involves a whole different set of cultural values. So bin Laden's war against the U.S. and the West is a defensive jihad against the actions of Western interests, not an attempt to wipe out the West.

According to this author, if we were to back off (stop supporting Israel's tyranny against the Palestinians, stop trying to take over Middle East oil fields, stop supporting corrupt Middle East dictatorships, etc.) we would not have a problem with Islam. But that's not likely to happen because we consider ourselves to be a hyperpower that has the right to use our military power whichever way we see fit.

I am an Epsicopalian, but I feel that Islam is one of the most beautiful relgions. Honesty, most of the people in Western Society do not take the time to understand Islam, and all they ever see of Muslims are them taking planes and crashing them into buildings.

Figure this: Judaism came first, and then Christianity broke off from Judaism, and then Islam broke off from Christianity. It may be a religion with many rules, but it is a religion that inspires a lot of people to stay true to their God.

From the words of Muhammed (the last prophet in Islam) said: A true Muslim is a person from whose hands and tongue others are safe.

The Muslims who kill are not true Muslims. While these Radical Islamists are growing in numbers each day, it is important that we remember there are many Muslims out there who are not like this.

Obviously.
We could do a lot to help ourselves by not giving muslims "special treatment". We don't give special treatment to Hindus, Sikhs, Jews or Buddhists. We don't hear about the "Hindu Council of England" - but we're always hearing about the "muslim Council of England".

If the muslims don't like Western Society, let them go and live in an Islamic country.

Western society is based on rational thought. All religions are based on superstition and ignorance. Therefore, all religions are a threat to western society.

Islam is not a threat, its the extremists who are the threat, Muslims are peace-loving and non-muslims are totally uneducated about that. there needs to be more education about religious beliefs, starting in the primary schools. Not everyone is a white anglo-saxon christian.

Sure, Islam is a threat to western society. After all, it is the holy religious duty of all Moslems to help bring the whole world under the thrall of Islam. However, I think that Christianity is a much more immediate threat. Christian 'Dominionists' (Reconstructionalists, Theonomists) have largely usurped the local level political apparatus of the Republican Party, and are engaged in a sub rosa process to politically motivate moderate Christians under the false cover of religious issues such as morality and family values. The goal is nothing less than the takeover of all elective offices in the USA.

Their doctrine comes from the Bible, starting with the term 'dominion' at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”

They want to remake the USA as a theocracy... and they are succeeding.

Its most common form, Dominionism, represents one of the most extreme forms of Fundamentalist Christianity thought. Its followers, called Dominionists, are attempting to convert the laws of United States so that they match those of the Hebrew Scriptures. They intend to achieve this by using the freedom of religion in the US to train a generation of children via home-schooling and in private Christian religious schools. Later, their graduates will be charged with the responsibility of creating a new Bible-based political, religious and social order. One of the first tasks of this order will be to eliminate religious choice and freedom. Their eventual goal is to achieve the "Kingdom of God" in which much of the world is converted to Christianity. They feel that the power of God's word will bring about this conversion. No armed force or insurrection will be needed; in fact, they believe that there will be little opposition to their plan. People will willingly accept it. All that needs to be done is to properly explain it to them.

All religious organizations, congregations etc. other than strictly Fundamentalist Christianity would be suppressed. Nonconforming Evangelical, main line and liberal Christian religious institutions would no longer be allowed to hold services, organize, proselytize, etc. Society would revert to the laws and punishments of the Hebrew Scriptures. Any person who advocated or practiced other religious beliefs outside of their home would be tried for idolatry and executed. Blasphemy, adultery and homosexual behavior would be criminalized; those found guilty would also be executed. There are two conservative Christian pastors in Texas who have advocated the execution of all Wiccans. Ralph Reed, the executive director of the conservative public policy group the Christian Coalition has criticized Reconstructionism as "an authoritarian ideology that threatens the most basic civil liberties of a free and democratic society."

By failing to openly confront this insidious agenda, we have sown the seeds of our own destruction, while these religious wing-nuts are paving the way to Armageddon with gleeful anticipation.

No not at all. It is only because of wrong notion there is divide and they are being subjected to ill treatment. Also, Muslim leaders must join together and as an united force, bring in media attention to their needs and find political solutions rather than act like a terrorist. This particular act is damaging the Muslims and Islam and try to find a different way to address their problems. Even Muslims find it harsh to see beheading of innocent journalists.

as long because of the fact the Western societies regulation is lenient as that's to punishing faith or religious human beings of any style(say, kill human beings interior the call of their faith case in point), we would be slowly dropping our identity to the greater beneficial-willed human beings. If the guidelines will stay as they are, there will be as quickly as a time the place muslims in western societies would be those to ascertain whether or no longer they're going to succumb to the plenty greater liberal West or stay of their faith. It should not be severe high quality, given the violent messages of the Qu'ran. i will already see some muslims being outraged by the assertion I merely pronounced, keen to kill interior the call of their faith, purely to later say Islam is a faith of peace. Hypocrisy =/ Jono - unlike interior the muslim international locations, extremists or "rotten eggs" as you refer to them are frowned upon and stored at bay at maximum christian international locations, whilst those are no longer purely tolerated, yet given the two public, financial or government help. it relatively is a substantial distinction.
