Leonardo da Vinci was one of the three greatest painters of the Renaissance and a universal genius. The painting then was in Sculpturesque Mode, for painters were not yet skillful enough to be totally realistic, in spite of what some answerers say. Jan Vermeer van Delft was the master of Total Visual Effect and made Da Vinci seem amateur.

Leonardo Da Vinci is famous for his realistic paintings, such as the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, as well as for influential drawings such as the Vitruvian Man. He conceived of ideas vastly ahead of his own time, notably conceptually inventing the helicopter, a tank, the use of concentrated solar power, the calculator, a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics, the double hull, and many others.

Leonardo da Vinci was a great artist of his time. I think he was commissioned to paint churches etc...but u may need to check up on these facts, but that's his full name anyway.
