Soak the foot in some warm water to soften the skin, and then gently remove the thorns with a pair of tweezers. After all thorns are removed, use an antiseptic cream or spray on the foot.

What time is it? If it is nap time or bedtime...make a pultice from bread and warm milk. Soak up the bread til it is mushy, and put it in a bread bag or a sandwich baggie and put that in a sock. let it soak on the child over night and it will draw anything out, including poison or infection. Poor dear...good luck!

get EMLA cream from the chemist, apply it to the skin for 30 minutes, it will make the skin numb for 1 hour, time enough to remove the foreign body. You can also buy another cream called AMITOP, both creams do not need special prescription.
Good luck!

A more useful question for the population at large would be how to remove a liberal's foot from his/her mouth.

Maybe you are asking how to get him to cooperate? My son needed stitches when he was little and they told him to lie on the sheet and they proceeded to roll him up in the sheet to keep him still. It worked. Then do what the others said to try. You did not say how old the child was!

Ask him to pee on his foot. No kidding. It works. That is if you are talking of sea urchins. The pricks of the urchins are brittle so you cannot get them with twissers. They will just break. The urine will dissolve the pricks.

It will hurt a little, but leaving them in could hurt a lot more, if they get infected.
