Go to a Christian store and get little stickers. Make a coupon book (use construction paper or pretty paper to write on with one sticker each coupon).
(use your own ideas)
1.I will do the altar linens this week.
2.I will clean out/water the flower beds this week.
3.I will do the reading one Mass.
4.I will (Murphy oil) the pews one week.
5.I will bring you dinner one night when you get home.
6.I will serve on altar one Mass
7.I will do the collection one Mass.
Then at the end a list of things, cute.
1.I will sing louder during Mass.
2.I will go to confession more often.
3.I will forgive my enemies.
4.I will be of service to my fellow man.
5.I will trust in the Lord with all my heart.
6.I will read my Bible.
7.I will pray for you.
You see, what he wants is to know that even if he were not around, you would still be there doing your part. He wants to know that YOU are gonna be okay. You are his little lamb. share your love.
A prayer For You (on cover of coupon book)
I asked the Lord to bless you
When I prayed for you today,
To guide you and protect you
as you go along your way.

His love is always with you,
His promises are true,
And when we give him all our cares,
he will see us through.

So when the road you are traveling
Seems difficult at best,
Just remember I'm here praying,
And God will do the rest.

A set of nice stationery and an offer to take dictation if he is not feeling up to writing the thank you notes he now owes for all the flowers and fruit baskets.
A book of short stories or brief facts (like a book of world records) that can be read for short periods without losing the thread of a story.
If you know each other well and you've been active in your church,an offer to take up some slack in the church office with regard to clerical duties or even making sure the place is getting cleaned properly in his absence might be far more welcome than chocolates.
Lastly, ask him if there's anything special he'd like done in his behalf for whomever has been taking over services and confession for him in his absence.

In our parish when Father Schneider had to have an operation we made up a gift basket of toiletries he needed. We did not limit it to just bathroom necessities, we put in a puzzle book for him to work while recuperating, some crackers and chips to nibble on and hard candies. If you know him well enough, you should not have to much of a problem selecting things for your basket that will be needed during his convalescing period

Priests are usually very selfless people. He wouldn't want a letter of "get well soon, we love you" kind of anything, but maybe something more... concrete.

How about writing him a letter about how he brought you closer to God or something like that? Something short and thoughtful. Ask your family and friends to do the same, and make a small book with all the letters received.

Just a suggestion!

Send flowers and nice card. If he's in for a night or two and not under any restrictions you could send him a goodie basket with snacks.

Write him a poem. something extra significant than the undemanding roses are pink, violets are blue.... something that takes various thought, and end it with i admire you. while you're no longer sturdy at poetry, you are going to be able to desire to color him something, have self belief it or no longer maximum adult men could be flattered which you may placed time into something like that for him. as quickly as back make it significant. extra beneficial than in elementary terms a coronary heart, and carried out make it irrelivant (dont paint a vase of plant existence). easily something innovative is physically powerful. while you're wanting to get him something that isn't hand-made you are going to be able to desire to continuously get him colone or a watch fastened or something. sturdy luck!

A card or flower would be nice. What he would really appreciate is to have a prayer time with him for him. Turnabout is fair play. He's usually praying for you, now it's your turn to pray for him.

What he does not need as a lot of this little gift crap. Tell him that you will make an extra donation to the church....that would make him feel better than a cheap trinket.
