No, it isn't not a chore - but it is certainly time consuming, and at times even the best of parents need a break and some time for him/herself.

Being constantly there, being responsible, plan and always consider one's child needs, wants and interests first is VERY stressful. Being at night there, night after night, while your child sleeps - is sometimes boring (one may wish to go out, no? TV has such idiotic shows...). Worrying about getting home in time from work, from stores, from friends - is herratic.

Yes. A parent baby-sit her own children, just as much as she cooks dinner for them, she changes their diapers and she teaches them how to behave. None of these are chores... but on occasions, remember that there can be too much of a good thing.

I don't see why not! Baby sitting your own child can further enhance the bond between the 2 of you. As the baby is inside the mother's womb for a whole 9 mths, the very first person's voice the child can identify with is that of their mom's. So by keeping this closeness, you're actually on your way to creating a strong relationship with your child. =)
spending time with your child is never a chore, it's a pleasure.

I TOTALLY agree with you! I HATE it when i hear someone say "I have to babysit my children tonight or my son" or which ever it may be. They are not babysitting them, they are spending quality family time together if they have responsibility of them at a certain time with the other parents is at work or is away from the home. Usually when someone babysits they get paid for doing it, if you are a parent and you have to take care of your children b/c the other parent is away, that parent is not going to pay you when they arrive home from work or where ever they were. I never understood it either when I heard people say they are babysitting their child.

No! I think it is awful! That person CHOSE to have kids, it's not a chore or a job. I feel awful for the kids! Babysitters are underaged kids, trying to make money to take care of kids! Motherhood should not be considered a CHORE. I'm appauled that someone would say that!

Parents don't babysitt their own children....it doesn't make sense. Sometimes we do have to watch and watch out for our children and then there are other times when we do spend time doing things together. Babysitting means something that is a temporary job, being a parent is a full-time job.

No. it's not right. At my house we just say, do you want to stay home with the kids while I run to the store, etc...(This is just so we don't get the 'I want, I want' syndrome going at the store)
Those are your children that you are responsible for everyday , everysecond of your life. They are a privledge to have, not a chore. NOW, someone else's kids, that can be a chore !!!

I agree with you, I really don't like it when parents say they're babysitting thier children.. The term "babysitting" is usually said for watching someone else's children... Being a parent is spending time with your children and watching them grow not some type of burden...

I agree 100%. As a dad, it always used to get my goat when I told people my wife was going out, or away for the weekend, and they would reply "Oh, so you're babysitting are you?"

NO. I'm looking after my child, which is the best job in the world.

Hello,

I'm a parent and I don't baby-sit my own kids...I spend time with them.

It's a parents JOB to be there for their kids.

Even as a single parent, I don't consider watching my kids as babysitting...it's called being a father.
