Yes it is a sin, because we are harming our body.
God says :
1 Corinthians 6:19
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
Our body is a temple of Christ. We are His church. Why do you want to harm it.
We are not talking about second hand smoke.. we dont really have an option if we cant walk away, but I mean intentionally smoking.
Besides Biblical reasons, it is also bad for health, makes your skin grey, teeth brown, lungs black and breath smell. Why would you want to do that?

This is a good question that i've heard a lot of people ask. As with all questions about this sort of thing, you should always search the scriptures for the answer. It's true the bible DOES NOT say "Thou shalt not smoke" anywhere. But it DOES clearly point out that as a believer in Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells in our bodies. (Romans 8:11)
With this in mind, do you really want to be filling the same body that the Holy Spirit of God lives in with toxins and chemicals? Also in Romans 12:1 it says "I beseech ye therefore brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service."
I cannot tell you if smoking is a sin, because I don't have the authority to judge such things... only God does. It's up to you to read the Bible and interpret the verses like the ones I have typed here as you feel God is leading you.
If you are trying to kick the habit remember its only "by the mercies of God" that you can do it.
Good luck and I hope it helped.

Why?
1. Because, like many people said, our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Also, if you love your neighbor, you wouldn't want them to get second hand smoke =o)
2. Because we're to have no other gods but God, and if smoking becomes an addiction, it becomes a God in our lives.
How much would amount to be a sin?
Sin is sin. There's no big sin or little sin; all sin is equal in the eyes of God.

It is not a sin. It is an issue of stewardship.
God has given us freedom in all things through Christ. Paul eloquently states "To me all things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but all things do not edify."
If one chooses smoking before God, they are not saved. If one squanders resources to indulge in smoking, they are carnal in their walk with the Lord and very poor stewards with what God has provided. If one has the ability, availability, and resources to quit smoking and choose not to, they risk stumbling a weaker brother who needs to quit or already has. If for lack of faith or bio-chemical reasons, or lack of resources someone who desires to quit cannot, then God's grace is sufficient.
If God has shown you that you must quit smoking, one more cigarette is a sin because it is disobedience to God.
For those who proclaim randomly that it is sin, when they sit down for their cup of coffee, or open a soda, or instead of watching their favorite TV show or sporting event, or maybe instead of washing their car on Saturday morning, they should study the first few verses of Matthew chapter 7, which begins "Judge not that you be not judged."
As far as going to hell for smoking, I once heard a preacher say "You will not go to hell for smoking, just smell like you've been there!"

Yes. It's sin.
First, you are destroying your body, that is,the temple of God (1 Corithians 3:16), which is the gift from God.
Second, your are committing murder on yourself and people around you who inhaling your smoke's smoke, which is sin.
Thirdly, your are wasting money. You didn't use the resources given wisely (buy education materials, foods for the poors, etc)
Any amount of cigar intake is considering sin.

I think so. Smoking lowers the standard of living for everyone in any society because of the cost of treating the diseases smoking causes. This is a sinful burden for nonsmokers to have to pay (lumped together with smokers in their insurance policies).
The cost of medical treatment for smokers should be part of the cost of a pack of cigarettes. Then the cost of a pack (what...$2,999 per pack?) would prevent smoking and smoking related illness by discouraging consumption.

Smoking is indeed sinful activity because it violates 7 Biblical principles......
1. Chemical addiction - Smoking has chemicals in it that make it many more times addictive than heroine or cocaine. According to Jesus we cannot have anything else master over us but God. (Genesis 4:7, Matthew 6:24, Luke 16:13)
2. Bad for your health - If God created the human body which he called "good" (Genesis 1:31), why would you pollute it? If you got your kid a nice bike for his birthday, how would you feel if you later saw him leaving it lying around in the mud and rain and not taking care of it?
3. Setting a poor example for unbelievers - How can people glorify God by your example (Matthew 5:16, 1 Peter 2:12) when you are engaged in improper activity?
4. Setting a poor example for believers - How are we going to be mutually encouraged by each others faith if we are engaged in sin?! I am offended enough every time I smell someones 2nd hand smoke but to smell it coming from a believer?!?!?!?!!?
5. Setting a poor example for kids - But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. -Matthew 18:6
6. Using the resources God gave you for no good purpose - Smoking wastes money (Matthew 25:14), time, and your health. (things we can all use more of) Since God gave us resources, we need to use them to further the Kingdom, not live life the way we want.
7. Continuing in sin - Given the hundreds of times i have talked to smokers; deep down people know that it is wrong and is therefore SIN. If you continue to do that which you know is wrong you are allowing sin to rule your life.
Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. -Psalm 199:133
For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. -Romans 6:14

YES; you are destroying the temple of God which is your body;;
Are you a smoker? You can quit smoking by using the same method. First, throw away your cigarettes. Destroy them completely. If you toss them into the dumpster or drop them into a garbage can, there's a good chance you will be tempted to go back later and dig them out. "Flee" from this temptation by destroying them completely. Flush them down the toilet if necessary, but by all means get rid of them in a way that will not allow you to retrieve them. Then, once you have disposed of your cigarettes, don't allow the thought of lighting-up to take root in your mind. Drive that thought out as soon as it enters, and immediately fill your mind with wholesome thoughts.

whatever harms you is a sin.that is what Islam says.I would say it is gradually suicide.so it is easy to understand what is a sin and what is not.your question is like asking is nuking people is a sin or not?you cannot say it is not because there were no weapons of mass distruction at that time.most of the times what you think is harmeless is the most harmful thing for you.
