My dentist said (a while ago) that there was no point in taking it out as it wasn't causing problems. But recently the gum and cheek next to it have been getting really sore - swelling up a bit. I've used Corsodyl, which seems to help. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm not due to see the dentist again for four months.

Any dentists out there today?

I just had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled.. they were only part of the way through. My whole mouth hurt. it felt like my gums were being pinched because they were so crowed. I finally had them pulled after much debating. I was put to sleep.. I had an iv.. and laughing gas to help me relax. When I woke up I was numb .. they sent me home.. and I slept most of the first day. my mouth did bleed a lot.. and my mouth was sore to the point i could only eat mashed potatos and warm soup for about five days.. it slowly got better, and now my mouth has no pain at all..

I am not a dentist. All 4 of my wisdom teeth came in when I was in my late teens. I am now in my 40's and all four have been removed. One by one over the years for various reasons. One of them came in as yours only part way & food got caught under the gum & caused an infection. The infection spread to my throat and I had a severe sore throat, which required antibiotics. The tooth was then removed.

I just had the back molar pulled because the wisdom tooth was pushing on it and I was in the worst pain i've ever had besides giving birth. After getting that other tooth pulled my wisdom tooth had room to come in and the pain eventually went away. It felt like I had a migrane and the pain went straight to my eyeball. I suffered this pain from October to May.. Don't wait as long as I did.. Take care of it now before it gets worse. Go see your dentist. If he won't take it out then you need to see a different dentist. Goodluck!

My wisdom teeth started erupting at age 18. After a while, the dentist said "Don't worry, it'll sort itself out"." I am now 40 and only the top 2 came through. The bottom ones are impacted and don't cause me trouble, apart from an occasional flare up. I guess they're permanent now! LOL

Yes all mine came through that way and they were sore for a quite a while. The worst two never were any good with constant food build-up around the tooth and I eventually had them taken-out one by one as and when they became infected and decayed. I've still got two though (age 50+) and they are fine so I would say dentist has made the correct call. Keep them for as long as you can

I'm not a dentist, but one of my wisdom teeth was partially erupted and I had it removed. But it turns out that all 4 of mine were impacted and had to be removed. If it's really bothering you, I would call the dentist and ask him to refer you to an oral surgeon, who can better make the decision if the tooth needs to come out or not.

Partially erupted third molars can be benign to terrible. Sudden swelling can mean food impaction under the flap or it can mean teething. Ambisol can help but you may need antibiotics and an evaluation as to wheither to extract or keep it. If the tooth is poorly formed or out of line, have it out. Kelloggdental

I have had 3 of my wisdom teeth taken out, 2 def needed taken out as they grew smashed to pieces they never were a full tooth! i have never been told how this happened but i asked if i could have one of my bottom wisdom teeth taken out as well as i had the same symptoms as what you have, they didn't want to but i argued the case and it got done!

So if you are in pain and want it out phone up your dentist and ask for a emergency appointment or try and bring your appointment closer and when you are there say you def want it out, it will be the only way it will stop hurting!

Hope everything is alright soon

I had a partially erupted wisdom tooth. It was always getting infected. It would not fully erupt since it was laying sideways and I got them removed.
