The gallbladder is a sac on the back side of the right lobe of the liver. It does not manufacture anything, it is simply a storage place for bile, which is manufactured in the liver and is comprised of bile salts and cholesterol. The bile is stored there until the gallbladder receives a hormonal signal to empty into the small intestine. The hormonal signal is initiated by the presence of food, particularly fat in the small intestine. Then the gallbladder wall contracts, pushing the fluid out the bile duct, which joins the pancreatic duct (carrying pancreatic enzymes) to form the common duct, and this mixture empties into the first part of the small bowel. The bile salts are the primary buffer to neutralize strong stomach acids. The neutral pH is necessary for the proper continued digestion and absorption of the nutrients.
When the gallbladder is removed, the duct is directed right into the common duct, and you have a small trickle of bile into the intestines all the time.
The storage and periodic release of bile is more necessary in a hunter-gatherer type of lifestyle, where you might only eat once every day or two (or less often). In modern society, where food is ubiquitous, and the vast majority of people eat multiple times a day, it is, for lack of a better word, unnecessary.

I don't have a gallbladder and I'm alive and well. You have to be careful about eating rich foods at first until your body get's use to it. No other consequences that I know of.

People are always having their gallbladders removed. The after effects are diahorreah because the bowel has to work a bit more to move food through. My mother has had hers removed and a friend also had hers removed, they are fine.

After having your gall bladder removed, your physician may recommend a type of digestive aid and even that is not vital. Life will not be changed for you. However the purpose for removal is something to investigate. If the bile duct is plugged or massive stones are present, it is needed. But smaller stones may be removed by an ultrasonic technique...and that is much less painful and returns you to home sooner.

Yes. The consequences used to be changes in diet to cut back on the fatty foods. This is not as significant now as it used to be 30+ years ago.

Many people do. It is a common operation to remove one. It is now so easy it is done on an outpatients basis. My wife, Mother and several friends lost theirs.

The gall bladder and appendix are of no importance. A spleen is nice but can be dispensed with.
