Should not be a problem as when we went, there were kids as young as 10yrs with their folks riding one elephant.
We were staying in Krabi (Southern Thailand) and went on an jungle trek riding the elephants - they were advertising this trek in most of the guest houses.
There is wooden platform with a staircase, built to the height of the elephants, it so easy to just slide on to their backs - in fact, there is a wooden/bamboo seat like structure that has been strapped on to the elephant's back with a wooden bar going across the front for safety.
It was truly a great experience to feel at one with these magnificent animals - I knew then that when I have children, that I would love to share/give them the pleasure of this experience.
So...............go have a great time with your kids and take loads of photos - the keeper took our camera off us and near enough used the whole film for us !!! Can't complain though !!

Do not if the 15 year old is male he will possibly try and sneak in a gogo bar (which they dont allow) possibly with a camera for mates which they really dont allow.

lol... I make elephant trips in Thailand for many years, through my tourist agency. You can without any problem bring them too.
What should be the problem?
