Catholics are Christians

That is an interesting question. The church would say: We are "One, Holy, Catholic, and Aposolic". Meaning we believe that we encompass all of christianity, believe in the apostles teaching and believe that the pope is decended from Peter, etc..

I say that what distinguishes us is our strict rules and how they do not change with time. In the modern era, I think that you see Protestants changing the rules to adapt to the modern times, but Catholics hold the same rules true, basically, that we have had for a long time. Is this a good thing or a bad thing, I don't know. I personally grew up a Catholic, but I don't really follow it anymore.... so I would say it is a bad thing, personally. I do think, however, that it is a noble thing and shows the world that although things change, our morals and beliefs should be constant.

Catholics have the apostolic succession and the original form of Christian worship (mass). It is the Roman Catholic Church that originally (and I think mistakenly) created the canon of scripture now so abused and misused by the fundamentalist movement. The Church that became the Roman Church was the original Church, and by the time canon was formed, it had to be sent from Carthage to "the Church across the Sea" for approval. Rome (despite what many of my fellow Protestants will say because they would rather lie than admit that they are at best an offshoot and at worst a heresy) was the original Church.

In my opinion all Christians share the same beliefs. The dogma that catholics live by is more strict than protestant but the ideals of the religion remain the same. It could be loosely compared as the difference between a mainstream Jew and an orthodox Jew.

Wow! There are so many things that separate a Catholic from a mainstream Christian.

A few......Confession, Praying to Saints, Wide Variety of Masses, the need to dress well for mass, the repetition of prayer, and so many more. Baptism at birth is also a good one.

In my opinion and in not so many words, it is the way they pray and to whom they pray to. That is what distinguishes Catholics from other Christians.
