AVG antivirus has a completely free version which requires no credit card- get it either from download.com (search for AVG free) or directly from free.grisoft.com

Same here all you do to pay for it ask your Bank about internet payments depending what country you are in you just transfer the money to the seller from your Bank account. If you make an overseas payment thenyou face charges (hier $20) from your Bank and from the recieving Bank so if you don't know how much they charge it becomes a bit dicy thet just take the money from your payment then your payment could run short.
For more info get in contact with me your Bank and the Software company.
Take care!

http://Free.grisoft.com:
-AVG virusscanner
While there, also download Ewido (anti malware).

Clamwin is NOT recommended, it does not scan in the background; it only scans when you do a check with it yourself.

The longer list mentioned by beer_farts are mostly online one-time scanning possibilities; they won't stay in the background (which is essential!) either. But they ARE good things to use to detect viri / other malware periodically.
