Will I receive any merits after making so many mistakes?
My spiritual life looks to me like two step forward and one backward. Is that permissable? However, I am only human and my body is average and my mind is similar.

I think that you have asked whether it is possible to recieve God's blessing(both spiritual & material) after making many mistakes. In our spiritual life there will be wars which we have to win. In the initial stage of our spiritual life we will face many battles. In the word of god we read about many battles. But i would like to mention about three battles.

1. Romans 7:23- battle in the mind
2. psm 55:21- battle in the heart.
3. James 4:1 - battle in the flesh.

In the beginning of our spiritual life we will be confronted with these wars. But we have to win it. because our battle is in high places with evil spirits.only when we win these battles we can stand against the devil. I think you are now in a battle with things that you hate but still you are doing it. dont worry jesus knows your battles. He is saying that i will bring victory in your battle. We read in the word of God that land has been rested after war. Joshua had battle with 6 kings and 31 nations. At last the land rested.

What you are facing now is similar to the problem where many people face in their spiritual life. Gods grace will enable you to overcome this battle. A man of war cannot build a temple. so only david couldn't build a temple. But solomon built a temple because the land was in rest during his time. God has called you to be there where He is. Ye are the temple of god. If you are preacher you have to prepare the souls entrusted to you for the coming of the lord. you have to give account for the souls in your congregation. You have to destroy the works of flesh by His spirit. you can win the battle only by His power and by His grace.

If you have a real desire in your heart that you want to come out of this state then you will cry unto the lord for His mercies.God doesn't want people who are very strong or average. God need people who are below average, unable to do anything of their own. so that gods name can be glorified through them. cry unto the god for a deliverance. God is there to bring victory in your battle. May god use you migthly for His work.

If you really are a preacher than you are doing the work of God for the wrong reason. If you seek merit than go get a job where people will most likely applaud you. If you preach and expect to get applause than try changing professions and learn to sing and play the guitar instead.

I don't think you are clergy or else you wouldn't have posted a question that is lacking so much of what God requires in a person that is the right stuff to become a minister of God.

Unless I mis-understood what you mean by merit.

Either way, I hope you find God the true living.

Consider these Scriptures and then ask your self some questions.

1 Corinthians 3:11-14 For no other foundation can anyone lay, other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one's work shall be made manifest; for the Day shall reveal it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall test each one's work, as to what sort it is. 14 If anyone's work which he has built remains, he shall receive a reward.

What are you preaching? Are you preaching the Word that leads to repentance from sin and faith in Christ?

2 Corinthians 5:9 Therefore also we have as our ambition, whether being at home, or being away from home, to be well pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, in accordance with the things which he did, whether good or bad.

Despite your mistakes are you striving to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord and exhorting others to do the same?

James 3:1 My brothers, let not many become teachers, knowing that we shall receive greater judgment. 2 For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a mature man, able also to bridle the whole body.

Have you been called and gifted by the Lord to preach? Are you on an upward path of spiritual growth and on your way to becoming mature in Christ?

There is no ideal/perfect preacher or saint. Don't even know whwho you consider a saint.
You don't rack up merits like you do points on Yahoo Answers.
And if you really are a preacher you would know that.
You don't get to spend eternity with God by doing works. It is by faith and then of course if we are obedient to God then the work we do will be pleasing to Him.
What does your body have to do with all of this???
We all make mistakes/sin. We need to repent and ask forgiveness. Again you would know this if you are a preacher.
So what's your real story???

If you're a man of the cloth, for real, and you're looking for spiritual guidance on Yahoo...I doubt there are a hell of a lot of merits, as you put it, targeted for placement on your merit badge sash.

I question your reason for preaching ...for merits? may you should practice listening. it may be the better way for you to gain merits...for your own self worth ....it seems you are in question of yourself.....how could you lead when you have not yet figured out how to follow?
