Whiplash is when the soft tissues of the neck are injured by a sudden jerking or "whipping" of the head. This type of motion strains the muscles and ligaments of the neck beyond their normal range of motion.

First Aid
- Try over-the-counter pain relievers like aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen.
- For at least 2 to 3 weeks, avoid activities that bring on or worsen your pain and stiffness. Don't lift or carry anything heavy or participate in sports.
- If you have pain when you move your head or the pain involves your shoulders or arms, your doctor may recommend a soft neck collar or short-term prescription drug to relax the muscles.

Best advice I can give is to go back to the Dr and insist on an MRI.... make sure thats its whiplash .... often people assume its whiplash and then it turns out there are more severe problems going on such as herniated discs or spinal cord compression. If it turns out to be whiplash, it will take time (often months), rest, therapy. Anti inflammatories and muscle reaxants may also help.

Your best bet is pain killers or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to keep away the pain and swelling. Other than that you should try to tilt your head in different directions, but not as far so it becomes painful. Continue with these exercises to help stretch your muscles. If this doesn't have any significant effect, I'd see a physiotherapist.

My friend who was in a car crash on his holiday gave me some advice when I had a problem with my ankle:

Basically, every morning when you wake up, do you neck excersies (or nexcercises, hehe). Just slowly rotate your head and massage your neck..
