A follow up on my last q on penance.
The priest asked me to "give grace to someone" what could he mean?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Giving grace means giving of yourself to someone who doesn't necessarily deserve it. Have you been withholding forgiveness from someone? Do you know of some way you can be a big help to someone you don't particularly like?

It doesn't really require grace to do things for people we love. Seek out someone that you either don't like or didn't really want to get to know and do something unexpected for them that will be helpful. It will help you both see each other in a new light.

"Giving grace to someone" could mean helping someone who is in need. For example, if you have a neighbor who is unable to get out much, you could offer to run some errands for them or help with some maintenence around the house. You could also volunteer at a local outreach program, like Salvation Army, or a food pantry.

That's how I would interpret it, anyway. The whole idea of pennance is to do something to repent for you sins. I hope this helps you.

Forgiveness does not depend on penance.

When you ask God for forgiveness, with or without a priest, your sins are forgiven.

However, raised up from sin, the sinner must still recover his (or her) own full spiritual health. One way to help restore your spiritual health is to do penance.

Penance can consist of prayer, an offering, works of mercy, service of neighbor, voluntary self-denial, sacrifices, and above all the patient acceptance of the cross we must bear.

Such penances help us be more like Christ, who alone makes amends our sins once for all.

With love in Christ.

Grace is love, respect, and all kind acts and emotions one can give another!

I believe it is the same as a blessing. What harm can come from it if you do it?

It means find a stupid Athiest, (like the first guy maybe) and share your cookies with them, so they won't be such immature little pricks.
