Avoid sneakers or running shoes - go for sandals (not plastic flip-flops) or loafers. Avoid poly tracksuits. Jeans are okay, but they need to be a fashion cut (so not a size or two too large and loose). Clothing should be casual and fashionable, as opposed to highly coordinated (so no matching tops with bottoms with shoes with handbags....). You can also take a look at European versions of magazines like Marie Claire to get some ideas.

Hair styles should be about the same, as, many French women, wear their hair in a tight ponytail or bun.

You should be proud of the fact you are an American. But if you want to "fit in" more, Europeans (women) wear more skirts and dresses. They have a put together look, especially in the Mediterranean. I noticed silk scarves, fine leather shoes and purses, tailored clothing that wasn't trendy but classy. Not too many women wear slacks, even in winter.

wear black, be proud that your a woman too. french women kick butt on the streets, its funny to watch em go by, they walk like they own the place . wear dark sunglasses, hair in a pony tail or straght. also another thing, if you really want to dress european.... the french especially, i dont know how they do it its almost as if they wear layers of clothes and the top is always black it seems. they wear jackets and scarfs when it is so warm! . SCARFS are a definite and not those dressy ones.... like big winter scarfs.
although since your going to the med. dresses, or skinny jeans or destressed jeans.... not alot of people wear slacks ...well none do... JEANS ARE A MUST! MAKE SURE THEY'RE HOT TOO haha, avoid the sneakers and ball caps, have a nice leather purse, you dont have to match because the more wild the better. .................... i love european fashion its fab

It depends. If you're going to Greece just carry a jar of olives. Italy eat a lot of garlic. Spain, dress like a matador. France, carry a white flag.

hmm...I would get a girl friend/boy friend...who is from Europe --not immigrated to the country...and he/she will tell you the good manners...including dress etc. Bon Voyage.
