I think you know the answer of your question. How can any idol be OK? Be it American, European, Russian or what ever. Idols worship leads you to a place I am sure you don't want to go to. The only God worthy for worship is God the Father who sent His only begotten son to be a sacrifice for all of human iniquity and sins. Without the blood of Jesus on the cross, and without the resurrection of Jesus from death, there can't be any salvation. We need the blood of Jesus for forgiveness, and Jesus Resurrection to have the new nature be born in our heart and thus retrieve the Spirit of God which we had lost by Adams sin.

To answer your little "pun"...no we are not to worship anything made under the heavens or under the sea, or created by human hands. That goes for worship of nations, too. To put your faith and trust in your given nation is against God's principles. You are to put your trust in God's government... the one you pray for in the model prayer. "Let YOUR kingdom come and YOUR will be done on...earth..as it is in heaven."
