Okay, the morning after pill is now allowed over the counter. Great. Why must the purchaser be over the age of 18?

Part of the problem in this country is that teens dont communicate with their parents, and parents dont pay attention to their kids.
Most parents don't even know for sure if theyre teens are sexually active. Most teens dont ask their parents for advice or counsel concerning sexual issues.

When will we start making real progress in encouraging smart sex?

No offense to those who claim teens will only abuse this over the counter option, but that's bullshit.

The reason for this is that children under the age of 18 are considered "minors" in the US. What that means is they have very few rights. They have human rights, but few legal rights. They do not have the right to decide for themselves whether or not they should have an abortion. Their parents have ultimate say. The reasoning behind this is that teens do not have the mental capacity to understand the consequences of their actions fully. Their brains are not developed enough yet. Their prefrontal cortexes are still growing (this is the reasoning center of the brain). THerefore, the belief is that their parents are better able to make those decisions for them. That is why children cannot vote, cannot live on their own, etc...I am not saying that I agree or disagree with this reasoning. It's just the reason it is like that. There are advantages and disadvantages to treating teens like adults and treating them as minors.

they are thinking of letting teens buy it. thats the big issue is if teens are going to abuse the use. what if it being over the counter there aren't going to be as many briths. this is whats the big issue for the government. if teens need it they can go to a planned parenthood or there docs. and if they don't want there parents to know then they wont.

That morning after does not always work. i took the morning after pill one night when a "oops the condom broke" moment occurred. we when to a 24 hrs pharmacy took that B.S. and nine months later I have a beautiful baby girl. so i am in the percentile that it didn't work. no more over the counters for me

i dont think it will ever change. i know of a lot of middle aged people who have had abortions or used the morning after pill so its not fair to say that teens will be abusing it, its stupid to call it abusing it at all when you think of what it actually does, its not an easy decision for a woman to make but she usually makes the one thats right for her--good for her that can be hard then you get old people thinking that we all just have sex then just abort our babies for fun come on its not easy and things arent like they used to be , usually the fathers are not in the picture and theyre left alone, its not anything to be abused it should be there for whoever needs it at whatever(understandable) age.

that's not the case, some teens will think it's ok to have sex now that they can just go to the store to get a pill. i really think this will just promote more teens to have sex.

I think it's okay....as long as it sterilizes the irresponsible whore who takes it in the first place.
