Why do silly people thing patterns on animals, clouds and walls are signs from a god?
Like the scale patter on a crocodile that looked like the words god , or a toast burn patter that looks like the image of what is popular thought of as jesus or Allah or anything...
Don't people get its just ou minds ording things no idfferent to seeing a club looking like a sheep or flying saucer...
What of the pattern looks like the letters bj...
Are you ordanied to suck the first guy you meet, Waht about fruit that look like sex organs... Does that mean all the relgious ideas of sexul morality are false and promiscuity is good unless you find a perfect partner? (and use condoms etc)
How about two clubs that look like sheep boning... should you bone a sheep?
how about the letters ID... You must worship Info dude?
etc...
its random duh

I believe in nothing inc big bangs... prefer evidence and reason and we would need a fing massive tellescope like 3 galaxies wide which should take 100s of years to build to work out if we came from anywhere...
But judge on the basis of rationality, reason, logic and feeling...
Ie the dutch have a pro affection and nudity system that results in the lowest teen pregnancy and std rates so follow the dutch...
Likewise go for heathy and yummy food.
Gays are not mean or nasty so good.
If I was in a burning car I would want some to shoot me in the head to stop it hurting if they can't get me out so would do that to others etc.
I like fantasy filsm and sci fi... does not mean its real

It's one of the functions of our brains to recognize patterns, interpret them, and store them in memory - it's how we become familar with the faces of our families and friends, how we recognize forms in paintings and photographs.
It's how our brains map our world.
If you doubt the importance of that function, think of those in whom that ability has been destroyed or impaired - dementia patients, for one.
Our brain accomplishes this complex task by using COMPARISON - is this pattern I'm now looking at in any way similar to another pattern that's already in my memory? Yes - I know you. No - I don't know you.
Our brains are so astonishingly good at this job that they OVER do it; they take any fragment of an image that is even vaguely famililar, and expand on it, embroidering it and then presenting our concious minds with a "recognition" or "memory" that may in fact be false.
So...people think they see Mother Theresa's face in the swirls of a cinnamon bun. A play of light on a metal wall becomes Mary and the Baby Jesus. I swear on my grandma's grave that my friend's bathroom had a damp stain on the ceiling that was the spittin' image of Richard Nixon.
Common sense tells us it's an illusion. But, if you've noticed, there are a hell of alot of people roaming this planet who don't have a sliver of common sense in them.
And, unfortunately, many of those people are now in the Bush government.

People are looking for and desperate for something to believe in, offer their faith to- for answers and reassurance.
They will search tirelessly until they have the signs to verify their beliefs and will always find them because it is simply logical that somewhere in the universe there will be SOMETHING that resembles just about every word, object and possibly even concept known to man... just because of the enormity of the universe and the diversity of objects, creatures, people, plants and things existing in it.
I watched a show where a psychologist said that, from birth we become programmed to have the ability to find faces in things as it's an instinctual thing to do with survival- we may see a face in a plate that has 2 eggs and a strip of bacon on it- in all actuality, it doesn't resemble the REAL human form at all, but it does to us because we have programmed our brains to search for these things so hard.
It's the same with a lot of religious and cultural beliefs and things that associate with them... people see those patterns because they're desperate to find meaning and worth in their lives- religion offers them the hope and security they so yearn for.

There is a definite case to answer :
Patterns on things when one is under the influence of class A drugs.
Sitting at the top of the healing fields at Glastonbury Festival I have seen dinosaurs in the trees. I saw sponge bob and square pants dancing at the bottom of the hill. I have see smurfs jumping in through hedges.
But, never considered them a sign from God - silly me !

I think there is plenty of room on our planet for different opinions, belifes and perspectives.U have picked the worst of examples but there are religions and im no expert but the bible also extensivly talks about signs.I don't think it pays to be judgemental but just respect what they believe in, There is room for disagreement without disrespect.I personally don't thik any perspective or belief is silly, just a different way, world view, out look of things

I know what you mean... It starts to get monotonous. There's only so many times you can see a Fox News report about something being sold on eBay that resembles Jesus or the Virgin Mary. It's become so 'the norm', you can buy 'Holy Toast' presses (see ref below).

People see what they want to see, because they need something to strengthen their faith, a "miracle" of some kind. That is not entirely stupid, considering that there are several people who claim that the need to believe to a higher being, God, or whatever you want to call it is ingrained into human nature.

They see what they want to, for sure. Lets just hope I don't see some of the above (sheep boning, for instance).

Well what do you believe in? Every one to his or her own beliefs.
What are you on this morning, go and have a long cold shower.
