She sounds either territorial or she's had a bad experience with strangers before you got her.
I'd try giving your visitors treats to give her when they come into the house. She might start associating strangers with good things then.

I am wondering if you had this kitty from a kitten or was it from a shelter. The reason I ask this is perhaps she was illtreated when she was at the last place. Failing that i think that because she is so affectionate to all your family members, perhaps this is her way of showing you how much she loves you and wants to protect you. At least the visitors know not to sit near her when they visit.

She might smell other cats or dogs on your visitors.
Try buying a "happy spray" for the house.
It's a special spray that only cats smell and contains some sort of feromone that makes them happy and relaxed.
It should do the trick. You can buy it at any Pet Store.

I have a cat that only has lived with my fiance and myself. She never has really seen other people before.Once our friend came over and we picked her up to introduce them and she turned into like "demon cat"..lol..I had never seen this gentle cat act this way. Its mabey because she has never been around many people except for the family that lives at your house.

Your cat is probably very affectionate and really does care about you and sees the people who visit you as enemies because she is not used to them and they are not her family. Try holding the kitty and showing her to your guests when they come. That normaly works with my kitty cats! Hope it helps!

She sounds very territorial. I would try reassuring her that the people will not harm her or are not there to harm you and your family. I had a friend give my cat a treat one time and the cat warmed up to her. Also, having her spayed may help to calm her down if you haven't already done so.

She could be trying to protect you, her "mommy". If she isn't used to having new people around she could also simply be terrified of them. She just needs more time to get used to them.
My cat usually hides when someone new comes around, but she is occasionally aggressive (and she's 5, and spayed).

i agree with all of the answers that indicate that your wonderful kitty might be territorial. no one touched on the fact that animals, especially domestic ones, have a special sense. they instinctively know when people either fear them, have a dislike for them, or even are just not the greatest of people. makes you kind of wish humans were equipped with this "radar" doesn't it?

Maybe she's just not used to them. When they come over, give it time, let her get to know them better, and then maybe they can hold her for a bit...if you feel that she's going to scratch them, maybe you should hold her paws whilst they're holding her. Or else buy a Happy Spray.
