The colour white has the best vibrations!
It emits positive energy that make one cheerful & bright!!
Dark colours like walnut have negative energy that make one dull & dreary!!!

If it was your mothers old furniture she must have a special attachment to it but that doesn't mean you cant ask her if you can paint it, I would hunt up some pictures of restored furniture painted as you want whilst thanking her for the bedroom makeover ask if she feels it would really brighten the room and make is look more spacious painted white....good luck and remember you get more flies with honey than vinegar!

It never hurts to ask. Help her to see your side. Don't insult her furniture. Tell her about an overall plan you have to redecorate your room, and work the white bed into it. Convince her that you are being responsible, by cutting out photos of what you like, putting together a budget for the project, and let her put some input in the project. Unlike some of the snotty moms on here, my mom would have loved to undertake this sort of project with me. I have antique wooden furniture that has been with our family for generations. It fits nicely in my decor in its natural wood, but I would ask and probably receive permission to paint it however I might like.

If it is old it is probably and antique and I would never let you paint it. Refinishing it with a new stain would brighten it up and make it shine. Walnut is a beautiful wood. She is hoping you might appreciate the sentiment in having her furniture. After all it is her house and just because it is your room does not mean you should be allowed to do what ever you want with it. Sorry to bust your bubble.

Any color would look nice, especially if you get some throw pillows the same color and add some white crown molding. It just depends on what you want the feel of your room to be. It's obviously going to feel fresh because of the white, but like green makes it feel clean and fresh, blue is more elegant and comforting, etc. I've always wanted to try decorating my bedroom that way, nice choice!

Poor you, this is so bad, just tell her you really like it but it would look so much better and brighter if you could paint it white, tell her it makes your room look dull and depressing. If it's white then it will match in with any colour scheme. It will give the funiture a new lease of life, you never know she obviously gave it to you because she got sick of it in her room.

If I'm not mistaken walnut is dark wood? If she won't let you paint it white ask if you can stain it REALLY dark. Then you could do the whole zen thing! Throw in a bamboo plant, a red rug and some slat blinds and voila!

Walnut is a beautiful wood and should be lovingly refinished and polished to a glow. If it is old, it will become a treasure and gain value. Covering fine wood is akin to you peeing on someone's carpet. Enjoy the depth of the grain and the satiny feel of the finished wood.

If it is walnut, I wouldn't paint it. Why not just have it refinished and I think you would be happy with it then.

Ask her nicely. If she says no, wait until you grow up and you can afford any furniture you want.
