There is a very low compliance rate on antipsychotic meds due to the side effects.

You haven't said why you're taking risperidal, but since it is given via injection, I have to assume that your doctor believes that you would not comply. Unfortunately, if you experience psychotic episodes, you may have to continue taking these meds.

If, however, you are taking it for bipolar disorder, there are other options (depending on your level of mania). Talk to your doctor.

Alright lets start here I am 46 and i am Bipolar so I have a mental illness what you may need is a change in regimen from you psychiatrist. I felt worse before i ever felt better. If you see your psychiatrist regularly maybe you should ask the doctor about changing your medication. I never took resperidone but did take resperidal and it did nothing at all to help me. I know take Seroquel and it works wonders. I have been on Zyprexa, Thorazine, Melleril and a host of other drugs that did absolutely nothing to help me. When my doctor put me on Seroquel it was like a dream come true. Yes it is sedating so you take it only before you go to sleep. You wake up not groggy and ready for your day to start. Call your doctor and make an appointment because there is absoultely no reason to feel like a zombie all of the time. Hope I helped and Good luck to you.

Risperidal is an antipsychotic also used to treat depression there are many other medications your doctor or psychiatrist could use instead of risperidal unfortunately alot of these meds have drowsiness as a side effect it should however ease off as your body becomes used to this medication. My best advice to you is to tell your doctor/psychiatrist how you are feeling exactly so they can look at prescribing you other medicines that will not knock you out as much but will help just as well. You need to inform them of the side effects you are experiencing otherwise they will not know and won't be able to help.

Thats no good, Im sorry for that !
Did you ever consider other forms of help as well as the meds., like a group, some type of conselling or belonging to a church or at least just checking one out. It cant make things worst and maybe, just maybe you will see that your depresion will start to leave you and a type of joy will take its place. The Bible doesn't use the name for God as the" Great Physician" for nothing.
I was diagnosed with M.S. almost ten years ago and im still walking and running and working, but there was a time that I was restricted to my bed and it was looking hopeless.

talk to your doctor about getting a different prescription. Dont stop taking the injections unless the doctor oks it. A lot of things can go seriously wrong if you stop on your own. I'm sure there is an alternative medication out there for you.

You feel that you have a mental illness itself suggests that you are mentally fit!!!
Only hting that there might be some minor problems and doctors gave you courses!
I suggest you meditation. If medicines trouble you then they are poisons for you. Avoid them.
I suggest you to go on singing, dancing, laughing, discussing and lastly exercising. Instead of medicines go to a good spiritual teacher or if possible come to us.

You need to speak to your doctor and tell him/her that you're feeling worse. They should know what to do....take you off or maybe you're supposed to feel worse before you feel better.
