IF prayer comforts you, and helps bring you peace.. if you feel that it is a help rather than a hindrance, PRAY!!
If you feel forced to do it, that is not the right motivation.
If you feel that prayer will make a difference in the lives of those whom you are praying for, then continue on, prayer soldier..

Obviously, praying is seeking solutions from "someone" outside of ourself. It is equally obvious that often, we do not have the answers or cannot find someone with the answers. Whether we beleive in God or a supreme being, praying seeks or delve into a deeper "self" for solutions. It is necessary in that we get an "aha" and then accept the proposal. We therfore proceed forth with greater resolve.

Praying is nothing but meditation in disguise. Meditation has wide benefits and since ancient Gurus were not in a postion to rasona nd communitae with large section of people , prayer was devised as a smart application for this need

well when we are praying- we are doing it not for society or social opinion. It is your benefit. If person realizes how much he/she needs prayer to be linked to God through it- he will go and pray willingly on his own.
In Islam to pray 5 times per day is a MUST, it is an obligation. Person who is not praying- is not following Islam truly. Keeping prayer 5 times a day helping to remember about God always and to sin less..
If we do not pray- we loose link/connection to God who created us. We become weaker and loosing chance to ask forgiveness for our sins

There are all kinds of "prayers" and they are not all equally valid. To pray with an appreciation of God as an entity or consciousness fully consistent with itself is far superior to praying to a God of violence and destruction. Prayer itself is analogous to food - generally positive, but sometimes the food is contaminated (negative doctrines in religion), and leads not to health, but sickness and death (analogous to dissatisfaction in life and inability to positively impact other human beings or society as a whole).

Since there is no God, prayer is a waste of time in any objective sense. However, it can be a psychological benefit to believers since it makes them feel good, just like a child writing a letter to Santa.

You asked a GREAT question! I think prayer is an awesome gift given to all believers. It truly humbles me when I think that my prayers (and your prayers) reach the ears of a loving, and powerful God who created everything there is. Luke chapter 1 verse 37 - For NOTHING is impossible with God. That's my favorite Bible verse. It gives me hope.

Is necessary if we believ in God .
The first mens on Earth ,who prays to the God, was Adam and Eva ,they know that God is Good and believed that one day, God will forgive they, because they don't listen to God.

Prayer is more than nessesary, nothing can happen for the good without it! Its our only link to God! ? Oh He would still know our hearts. But to pray shows Him our faith in it and Him! Peace! :)

No prayer is not necessary, and does seem somewhat of a contradiction to our perception that we are an individualistic, egoistic, capitalist society.
Your moral compass should be your own conscience and moral ethics. It's internalized within yourself.
