Who says that people can't have faith and still be open to the possibility they are wrong. Read the prayer of Thomas Merton, an American Religious writer:

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following Your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please You. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that, if I do this, You will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust You always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for You are ever with me, and You will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Maybe you should clarify first your definition of faith.

Biblically speaking, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is your trust in God. It doesn't really mean that what you want will really happen because of your faith. Faith is deeper than that. A person who has faith entrusts everything to God regardless if his prayer requests will be done or not..

By the way, I am not saying that God doesn't answer prayers too.. God does all the time. They are: Yes, Wait, and No.

God bless!

I think you're mixing up faith with narrow-mindedness. But, I see what you're trying to say. And, I have absolutely no idea, seeing that I don't have faith in a lot of things... but I guess, people don't like to admit when they might be wrong so they, like to put in all in the hands of something else... and blame that.

Faith is a very good thing. But, faith in the hands of the religious tends to be less faith and more psychosis.

Faith in believing what the rational interpretation of credible evidence suggests is the case is a good thing. Any other kind of faith is just a psychological crutch for the gullible and weak minded.

Faith can be a good thing.

Blind Faith is a bad thing and IMHO leads to hatred, hypocrisy, terrorism, war and fighting over pews in the church.

There's all different kinds of faith.
Faith in George Bush to take America someplace good.
Faith in me to mow the lawn at least once a year.
Faith in a pregnancy test.
Faith in God.
unfortunately, faith usually leads to exzema.

Faith is a good thing for those who need it. Pity they don't spend more time praying than pointing fingers.
