Normally digital cameras have an option to format the card in the settings menu or similar.
If the camera is not recognising your card it could be faulty, try wiping the metal contacts on the card with a clean not-fluffy cloth, if not try another card.

Read the manual. It is usually best to format your memory card in the camera. The manual will also tell you which type of memory card to use.

Check your handbook or website for max. card size supported by the camera. What size is the card? If the camera is more than 2-3 years old it may not take over 512mb. poss 1Gb

use a usb card reader.. connect it to the computer, look in 'my computer'.. and right click the card icon.. you will see "format" about 1/2 way down... format using FAT only.. and NOT quick format... this should cure your problem.. also.. have you tried to format it in another camera...... the reason it is saying "card cannot be used" is because it needs the format...

look at you manual and consult the troubleshoot section, there might be a way to solve this. the manual should give an instruction on how to format the card too. if im not wrong, it should be under menu

If your computer has a slot for your memory card, you can reformat it on your computer.
