Every one one of us is having spirit within us and it is not difficult to commune with the spirit out side. The problem lies with the obstacle of our physical body. As long as we are attached to the body and identify ourself with the body it becomes difficult to communicate with the spirit. As you say you are serious on this, try on concemtration first., which means detatching your thoughts from your body and its related subjects and reach a state of mind where your thoughts get zeorised. the rest will start dawning on you. Actually there is no spirits, ghosts or any other form of creature. All that what is available on the earth other than human is "Jinn". As per Islamic Concept, Jinns and Humans are created to obey Allah, the Almighty. You can not talk to Jinn unless otherwise permitted by Allah, the creator, the sustainer and cherisher of the universe.

I don't think you can. In fact, I'm not sure many of us can...just a select few. The rest of them are full of crap. If someone from the spirit world wants to contact you, they will find a way to do it, if not, it's better to leave it alone until you become a part of it.

Anyone can go to the spirit world temporarily, and many have done.
Just make sure you have someone that knows CPR with you and if possible a heart defribulator.

If you'd like to know what the experience is like of what you're describing, read the Book of Enoch (the 7th son from Adam who was taken into the heavens by God - reference Genesis), or read the prophets - especially Ezekial, Isaiah, Daniel and Jeremiah.
