Do NOT give Paracetamol! It is the same thing as Tylenol and can kill your dog! Don't use Advil or Motrin either. Call your vet.
I use a joint supplement called SynoviMSM. My vet uses it on her own dogs. It's a combination of Glucosamine and MSM. Because it's a supplement, it doesn't take away the pain immediately, but it really helps the joints in the long run. I have a prescription medication (Rimadyl), that I use only on occasion if my dog is painful.
It is ALWAYS in your pet's best interest to call your VET before you give any medication.
Good luck!

If your dog has arthritis you can go to the vet and he can have a needle, 1 a week for 4 weeks and then 1 a month. Asprin is only reccommended to be given to a dog under veterinary supervision as constant use can be harmful to a dog.

Don't give aspirin. It can be harmful long term and also hard on a dog's stomach. You can give tylenol, but there are lots better things out there, available at your veterinarian. There are things like deramaxx, rimadyl, or previcox. These are a lot better than tylenol but the pet's liver has to be monitored frequently while on these medications b/c some have liver trouble while on these. There are even things like glucosamine products that really help pets with arthritis, with no side effects. There are also special food formulations available, like Science Diet, available at most veterinarians, offers a formula called J/d. It works well also, with no side effects.

The usual aspirin dose in dogs is 10 to 25mg/kg (4.5 to 11mg/lb) every 12 hours. Asprin can cause bleeding problems as well as gastric ulcers and liver problems. There are safer alternative drugs and treatments such as carprofen, or Adequan for joint problems. It would be best to have your dog evaluated by a your vet before starting any treatment.

:( poor doggy. Take him to the VET! i don't think medicine is bad for animals( since most drugs are tested on animals) but what if your dog has an allergic reaction? You need to know how it will react towards some medicine :( poor doggy. Athritis sucks. sorry to hear that :\

Yes it can but only in really small amounts. Aspirin can make a dog bleed from the inside. Go to your vet they have safer medicines for arthritis.

Yes BUT you can't give a human size dose to a dog. You need to infd out from your vet how much to give. If you give your dog too much the results could be tragic.
I use aspirin for my older dogs once in a while but I spoke with my vet first.

I know that asprin can harm or kill cats, but I'm not sure about dogs. My friends dog had an operation and was in a bit of pain, she asked the vet and he said it was ok to give him panadol, (paracetamol). so she crushed up half a one and gave it to him in a bit of mince... I hope your dog will be ok, I'd be a mess too if my doggy was in pain.. :-)
