I have had an itch in the area of my naval for a while now. It also seems that there may be some sort of cyst underneath. Anyone ever had anything like this or know anything about it? I have tried looking at some web sites but was unable to garner much information. Thanks!

There is no kind of rash or anything there, wich leads me to believe it's not a skin condition. I am also quite vigilant about bathing and such.

Also I thank the writer for the great laugh I got from his answer.

Let me give you a list of conditions that could give you an itch around the naval.....
1) Scabies.... you would have tiny boils or fluid filled lesions on that area. Itch would be more at nights and other areas like the armpits, wrsits, groins would also be itchy.
2) Bacterial infection/ boil.... There would be a boil.. might be itchy and painful.
3) Contact allergic dermatitis..... Allergy could be to the belt or the button on inner side of your denims/ pants or any belly button.
4) Eczema.... Only itching in the beginning then the rash might develop. The skin might feel a lil rough.
5) Tinea.... fungal infection of that area. Will be itchy... might have a coin shaped darkish to pinkish rounded patch.
6) Psoriasis.... normally not itchy... Reddish rounded lesion with scales on it.

Now that you say there is no rash at all... Scabies, eczema would be strongest contenders. Hernia would normally not cause itching... instead there would be a swelling which would increase on coughing or straining too much.
You better meet the doctor for proper diagnosis.
To stop the itch yo could take Benadryl or Claritin and apply some moisturiser. A cortisone cream would help in an eczema, Psoriasis and allergy but worsen the infections.

You could have something as serious as a hernia, which could require surgery, or as simple as a rash or a boil. Your physician will be able to better tell what is going on.

A boil will feel like a rock under your skin, btw. I've had several. My doctor told me they indicate an infection the body can't fight off. If it is a boil, then the abcess should be drained, and you will need antibiotics.

See your doctor, especially if you have pain/swelling/redness in the affected area. If you develop a fever, go right away.

Well, I had a hernia in the naval area and it itched too. But, that's just a guess. I had surgery years ago to remove it. Check w/ your doctor.

Eczema patients can avoid scratchy fibers for softer ones like bamboo, cotton, or silk, which are gentler on the skin. Opting to buy organic fibers can also be a wise, healthy, and eco-friendly alternative. Learn here https://tr.im/uYf1E

I really hope that you would talk to your doctor about this. It sounds like you may have an infection not disease. Also try cleaning your bellybutton with a cotton swab.

I have but would definitely for a slice of that homemade chocolate cake. I had done that for very short distances but it was too hot for the snakes & no bugs either.

you might consider the button on your jeans and it touching around your naval. You could have an allergy to the nickel that buttons on jeans are made of.
