Relation Between Mb And Kb

2016-12-18 08:36:30 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

If you're buying memory, then there is 1024 KB in a MB, and 1024 MB in a GB. If you're buying storage (hard drives, flash drives, etc), you have to be careful. Read the packaging, because some companies conform to the "binary" standard, where 1024KB=1MB and 1024MB=1GB; while others use the "metric" standard, where 1000KB = 1MB and 1000MB=1GB. Both are technically valid, so be very careful: it's a difference of between 47-48 MB per Gigabyte. An 100GB hard drive thats capacity is given on the 1000:1 scale will hold about about 1000 songs or 4 hours of video LESS than an 100GB hard drive thats capacity is given on the 1024:1 scale.

"A megabyte is a unit of information or computer storage equal to approximately one million bytes. It is commonly abbreviated MB. Mb is used for megabits."

There's also a table with quantities of bytes on Wiki. Basically, the byte is a unit of data measurement.
