No need to call a vet. Veggies are just fine for dogs. I have several dogs and they all love veggies cooked or raw. Cauliflour, brocolli, green beans, nice crips lettuce and more! However several of my dogs can not tollerate potatoes, maks them throw up.

Thing is the veggies should not be used in place of regular food. Dogs are carnivorous and they do need meat! They need a balanced diet just like we do.

By the way. Make sure your dog is on a good food. Most fo the commercial dog foods are junk. Like a steady diet of McDonalds. Except not as holsome. If you read the packages you will see many of the commercail dog foods are mostly grain. Many dogs are allergic to corn and wheat. You will also see that most fo the use meat by products not meat. Mostly meat by products are nothing but gristle, tendons, intestines with the feces still in them, and other organs that have no other use. No real meat. The pet shops carry better grades of dog food. LIke Evangers, WEllness, Solid Gold. Foods tha tuse actual meat and higher qualtiy food. Cheap dog food is like cheap people food, filling but it barely sustains life. Let alone health.

One more thing. Someone suggested too much sodium in celery, and carrots instead. I have to disagree wiht that person. The sodium in celery is miner when you look at an entire diet. 100 mg of sodium per cup of celery. However dogs have na intolercne for Vitamin A they reach toxic levels faster than humans. Dogs should not have organ meats every day because of the levels of vitamin A in organ meats, particularly liver. Carrots are also high in vitamin A. Carrots should be give to dogs judiciously. They should not be a daily treat. Celery, green peppers, fresh lettuce (no dressing), carrots, brocolli, etc. Enough veggies to give your dog a different treat each day of the week. Oh and wash the veggies just like you would for yourself, the pesticides and bacteria will effect your dog just like it would you. Probably more because he is smaller than you.

Hmm, interesting! I've never tried giving Max a stalk of celery... we never have it in the house anyway because neither my father or myself can stand it. But I do know he loves to crunch on carrot sticks and the thick green trunks on broccoli. Max likes many vegetables; it's good for dogs! Just don't feed them onion, I've heard that's dangerous. He won't chew on corn cobs and he doesn't like fruit though... oh well, different strokes for different folks!

Can My Dog Eat Celery

Yes, most vegetables (except corn) are good for dogs - just don't let him eat too much. Lots of people give their dogs things like carrots to snack on because they don't want their dogs to put on weight and some of the dog treats are very high in calories (not to mention preservatives).

Can't imagine that it would harm him but a whole stalk sounds like a lot. Maybe just a few stalks, any more than that might give him loose bowels.

It's safe. Just don't give him a whole bunch right away. Never know, might get diahrea from too much of it. One or 2 stalks a day will give him vitamins. Very good for him, actually.

The answer to your question is NO.
Celery is very high in sodium.
You will say "but he just chews it , he doesn't eat it." Maybe but he is ingesting celery juice and that you will find the Sodium in there.
Give him a carrot instead, it's better for him.

I don't see how it could hurt. My dog loves cantaloupe. One thing I can't figure out is how they get away with selling those rawhide bones. My daughter worked for a veterinarian and most of the dogs that came in had problems because they ate them. They expand in the stomach and cause all sorts of problems.

I would think it is good for him, but a call to the vet to see how much is to much would be in order. I once had a male cat that loved tomato juice. When I asked the vet I was told it was good for him. It helped to have a healthily urinary track.
