there are a number of anti anxiety agents that are in the benzodiazipine family. Valium was the most successful for me, however Valium got a bad name from when it was just handed to everyone during the 60's and early 70's, and many people got addicted, so a lot of doctors suggest, Xanax, Klonopin, Lorazipan, but all of these are as addictive. I just felt for me personally, Valium seem to begin to lower the anxiety faster, and helped my anxiety to balance out longer than the other medications I have taken. I had my physician suggest, that if I were out somewhere and having high anxiety or panic, to put one under my tongue so that it would become effective more quickly, but I truly believe that Valium is the the best anti anxiety medication, I've ever been given. I hope this helps you some. If it is monitored correctly, and you take it as prescribed, you might want to give it a try. Hopefully, you will be able to find something to help you so that you do NOT have to be put in the hospital again for panic attacks. (I know what that's like) and I hope you will be able to find help that will help with the panic/anxiety, and free you from future hospital visits due to panic or anxiety.
I wish you all the best

This is not an ordinary matter.Consult an expert doctor (Psycatrist).Dont take any medicine as you like.Think of the side effect.Anxiety and depression may vary to various people so instead of asking for suggestion,go and consult the doctor. You have been hospitalized for panic attacks recently and yet to recover from it i think. Use only prescribed medicine by the doctor. You are risking your life.Stop asking suggestion here and go to a specialist.Infact go to the hospital where you were admitted recently and consult the doctor who treated you.Ask him to change the medicine if necessary.

I had panic attacks recently and have taken paroxotene for them. I like it pretty much. I'm iffy about xanax and valium because both can become addictive and I have taken both - I didn't find them as helpful as the paroxotene

Hi there, I just laugh about my past 3 years of panic now. I was not able to go anywhere without carrying xanax. Fear of having another attack was the most important subject of my days. When i first found joe barry's web site i started to cry because of my happiness.

i know where you are coming from, i have had both, depression and anxiety attacks, plus there is a history of mental illnesses in my family. i'm fine now, but was on both of those meds before, use sparingly, very addictive. plus, i've been on many antidepressants trying to find the right one for me. none worked, and you don't want to hear this, but they only thing that does is working through it, PILLS DON'T HELP! unless, however you want to be like some of the people that i know, laying in bed, popping pills all day, feeling bad for themselves, while the rest of the world goes on

There is not a one medication fix all for every one. YOU have to do the TRIAL & ERROR thing first.

There are MANY medications for depression & anxiety. As well as many combinations.

Look at the Benefits & Side Effects of each one! Then make your choice!

Meds take time to start working, I was told 4-6 weeks to start getting the effects. I would ask my doctor about Celexa, that is suppose to treat both~I take Zoloft and Wellbutrin myself.
Good luck hon~

you need to ask your doctor he can prescribe what is best suited for you and your condition. there are alot of new drugs out on the market today that help with the depression/panic attacks and it may take awhile for a new med to start working.
