Yes... but...
The real concern is not the microwaves, but the interaction of the containers that we put in the microwave oven with the food.
We typically put plastic wrappers / containers in the microwave, which has a thousand chemicals, that science has no idea of what it does to us. The microwave heats the outer layer first, which is touching the plastic container, and the plastic chemicals can leach into the food.
Heat a plastic bowl of pork-and-beans, - and you'll see the outer edge boiling, - and the inner section still cool.

Microwaves seem to be safe. Basically you are using microwave radiation to heat food from the inside out as opposed to waiting for the normal "heat" radiation that is produced by an oven, stove, or grill to penetrate the food from the outside in. When the microwave radiation hits the food (or other microwave-absorptive material), the radiation is converted into heat, and that cooks the food.
Microwaves use non-ionizing radiation (meaning that this type of radiation doesn't directly change the atomic or molecular composition of something it hits). X-rays use ionizing radiation, which is why x-ray techs wear lead aprons and stand behind partitions and leaded glass windows when they're taking an x-ray of, say, your leg. This is also why you don't want to have too many x-rays in too short a time period.
Check out the link below--it explains the differences very well.

There is no way for a microwave to poison your food as the microwaves are only present when the door is closed and it is turned on. The actual machine sends out microwaves which excite water and fat molecules in your food and cause it to heat up. The energy from the microwaves is converted into heat energy so it is perfectly safe. The only way a microwave can hurt you is if it is leaking microwave out of the inside while you are standing nearby. This is highly unlikely. Microwave away.

Erm,
Let's just put it this way.
I had a friend who studied science and did this experiment..
he had two potted plants grown in the same environment. One, he watered with microwaved water and the other, he watered with filtered water.
At the end of 9 days, the one watered with filtered water grew taller but the microvaved water one DIED.
If you consumed food that is cooked by the microwave everyday, what do you think will happen to your body? ;)
If you want, I can send you the photos and details of the experiment... email me at verityy@yahoo.com

I actually hear it's healtier to cook food in a microwave. I dont really agree with it. I heard it on the discovery health channel, so I had to agree with it.
