Why is it that dairy products, like various types of creams (sour cream, cream cheese, ice cream) and other dairy products are hazardous to our health but the dairy product from which it derives from, milk, is encouraged?

Actually, at least one product made from milk is probably better for you than the milk itself--yogurt. Yogurt is easier to digest (even for the lactose intolerant--see the link below), provides the calcium that milk does, and yogurt that has active cultures helps keep your digestive tract in good health. True, a lot of the flavored ones can go overboard with added sugar, but the yogurt itself is still good for you (and you can buy plain yogurt to avoid the added sugar).

The active cultures in yogurt are actually good bacteria that your body needs to help keep the bad bacteria in check in your digestive system. And don't buy the yogurt drinks that are hyped as being good for you (with active cultures, etc.). Consumer Reports magazine tested some of the most popular ones against some popular brands of yogurts, and the yogurts won hands down. The yogurts had much more of the active cultures (good bacteria) than the yogurt drinks (and the yogurts were usually a heck of a lot cheaper!).

From the link below (the U.S. government's National Institute of Health website): "Recent research shows that yogurt with active cultures may be a good source of calcium for many people with lactose intolerance. Even though yogurt is fairly high in lactose, the bacterial cultures used to make it produce some of the lactase enzyme required for proper digestion."

Cream contains a lot of fat but skimmed milk is good for health , as it contains protein and calcium.

Because all of those other things have additives in them - not to mention a large amount of sugar!
