YES - There are possibilities -
Genes: There also is a genetic component associated with psoriasis. Approximately one-third of people who develop psoriasis have at least one family member with the condition.
Researchers have identified genes that cause psoriasis. These genes determine how a person’s immune system reacts. These genes can cause psoriasis or another immune-mediated condition, such as rheumatoid arthritis or type 1 diabetes. The risk of developing psoriasis or another immune-mediated condition, especially diabetes or Crohn’s disease, increases when a close blood relative has psoriasis.
Family History. Some people who have a family history of psoriasis never develop this condition. Research indicates that a “trigger” is needed. Stress, skin injuries, a strep infection, certain medications, and sunburn are some of the known potential triggers. Medications that can trigger psoriasis are anti-malarial drugs, beta-blockers (medication used to treat high blood pressure and heart conditions), and lithium. Dermatologists have seen psoriasis suddenly appear after a person takes one of these medications, gets a strep infection, or experiences another trigger.
Possible Prevention : Keep your body clean and take bath atleaset twice daily in all weather conditions. Take lot of liquids and water.
Treatment Advances Improve Outlook :
With the emergence of several new therapies, including the biologic agents, more people are experiencing substantial improvements and reporting a greatly improved quality of life.
However DONOT get worried unnecessarily now itself.

I was diagnosed with psoriasis at age 14 and now I am 36 years old. You can say that I have tried just about every medicine both approved by FDA and trial without much success. Examples include Enbrel, Humira, oral meds, creams, oils, salts, coal tar, etc and the list is much more extensive that I can't even remember all of the names. But recently after someone shared this video https://tr.im/PsoriasisTreatmentsPu4V everything has changed. My psoriasis completely cleared by putting these changes in place. I only wish I'd taken photos of before and after because it truly has been miraculous. I am getting married in Oct, 2015 and I am wearing a strapless gown that also shows my back and I am confident (not like before) that my skin will be soft and pretty vs red and flakey.

RE: My Dad has psoriasis does this mean I will get it too, one I'm his age? (I'm a 16yr old girl, hes 53)?
And also are there any ways of preventing it, for example drinking lots of water or moisterising daily?

Psoriasis tends to run in families and it usually appears between the ages of 15 and 35.
One way researchers have been able to learn about the role genes play is by looking at families who have the disease. About 2 percent of the population has psoriasis. But if you have a brother or sister with psoriasis, you have a 50 percent risk of eventually developing the disease if both parents have the disease, a 16 percent risk if one parent has the disease and an 8 percent risk if neither parent is affected.

If your dad has it then yes, you can definitely get it. it is genetic. Not only that but you can have an "outbreak" any time. Not just when you reach his age. You can try to prevent it but I doubt, if you are going to get it, that your attempts will work to prevent every "outbreak". Me and my dad both have it, It's not the end of the world,

how long has your Dad had it? I thought psoriasis shows up pretty early in life and would think you would already have it if you were going to.
