no matter what time i go to sleep, or if i have taken a xanax or not or if i have taken a tylenol pm or not, i wake up at 4 am every morning without fail and have the hardest time falling back to sleep....whyyyyy??

no seriously you have different levels of sleep patterns and different levels of consciousness during the night, the experts think the second phase occurs about 45 minutes after falling asleep (the deepest and best phase for the body to relax)then you are basically starting slowly to come back to a more alert phase(wakening up)
judging by your 4 am statement i will assume you go to bed about 11 pm.
if you are under stress of any description once the body is more alert(3rd phase)the brain starts to think about your problems and thoughts from previous days, i think this might be your problem,
you could try a nice hot bath before bed to help your body relax, and i am told that eating before bed is a big no, no, as the body has to digest whatever you have eaten(working while you sleep)this can disturb your sleep pattern badly..

Its your internal clock. If you stay up until exhaustion and then sleep thou one night you have a chance of resetting it. But sadly only a chance. While I was pregnant I woke up at 3am every night. But after a 2 day delivery with no sleep, I went back to sleeping normally. If you call getting up every time the baby cried normal. Good luck! :-)

Try 5-hydroxytryptophan or Melatonin. Valerian root helps some people sleep better. Calcium-Magnesium-Zinc tablets three times a day and B50 complex once daily helps calm nerves too.

You are young. Your patterns can change over time. First of all, you should stop taking sleeping aids, drugs and alcohol, if you take any. Are you under a lot of stress? Is your brain too active? If so, you need to relax. Usually the brain is so active but the body is too tired.

Before you pass through this question because it says "internal clock" and you think it's like all the others you should read the whole thing.

Your body's internal clock is set to wake you up at 4 AM. Did you used to wake up at 4 AM every morning for something before? If so, then that's why. Your body is so used to it, it's gotten into a routine.

Either that, or your alarm clock is set to 4 AM so it keeps waking you up. Haha.

This is your natural clock talking. If possible go to be a little earlier. Or go on a long flight, this plays havoc with one's natural clock

You've got your body use to it. My dad could get up on time without a alarm clock. I hope you dont think I'm weird but if you are a christian it could be The Lord waking you up to pray & talk to him. He wakes me up between 3-4 am sometimes for that.

your internal clock works strangley. sum of it has to do with th esleeping patterns of your parents when they grew up alsmot like genetics ynow. or it could b becuase God is trying to send you a message taht the day he sends zombies to devour the earth taht you need to wake up at four o clock to escapre sum where.But my momey is on the genetic thing.
