explain the difference between a sex affender and a pediphile?
A pediphile is a Sex Offender who targets a specific group - children.
should all be lumped together for safety reason? Yes. Generally speaking, sex offenders are much more likely to re-offend.
and if so why is a drunk driver who kills someone in a differant class than someone that murders with a gun? I don't know - I don't think there should be a significant difference - when some one gets behind the wheel drunk, they are making a choice, just like the person who loaded a gun and shot it.
or the person that embezzles millions of dollars from a profit sharing plan differant than a bank robber? The real difference here is the bank robber commits his crime with violence or the threat of violence. I do think that "white collar" criminals get off far too lightly.

A sex offender is a male or female who doesn't take "no" for an answer. In some offences the victim doesn't even have an option called rape. A pedophile is an adult male or female who has a desired sex drive for minors. If an 18 year old engages in sexual intercourse with a 17 year old then he/she just committed an act of pedophilia... without even knowing it. This is such a peculiar topic. Every adult has done illegal drugs. No? Ever take an antibiotic prescribed to your mother? Of course we have. You just committed the same crime as consuming narcotics on the street from a dealer. The law does not see a difference. Thankfully we have a jury who decides weather or not intent or non intent was involved. Sex offenders offend anyone of any age. Including animals. Regardless of the victim's age the charge always begins with the offence. And finally it's divided into categories.

With respect to everyone's justifiable moral outrage, a pedophile is, strictly speaking, a person who views children as sexual objects. Thus a pedophile need not have committed any crime against an actual child. If they do commit such a crime, they will then be considered a certain class of sex offender. The difference between a drunk driver and a murderer is one of intent. Murder is a willful and intentional killing, vehicular homicide is not. I imagine that embezzlement and robbery could, in certain circumstances, be treated much the same, but robbery is often "armed robbery" and thus has aggravating charges.

well a pediphile is a sex offender...just a classification to that they were involved with a child. Where as a rapist or even flasher isn't a pedifile as long as the act never took place with a child.
Also a drunk driver is impaired and still shouldn't be driving but didn't have the intention of killing anyone (class: manslaught or vehicular manslaughter) where murder is more times than not premeditated and may or may not have had intention but still committed the act with malicious intent.
as for the last one I'm with you on that, cause atleast the bank is insured, it should be worse for an imbezzler but, they still didn't put a gun in anyones face either...

A sex offender is anyone that commits a sexual based crime. A pediphile is someone who commits the same crime but it involves a minor child being the victim. A drunk driver does not premeditate killing someone. Someone who kills with a gun has planned it. Embezzers steal over a cours of time and no wepon is involved most bank robbers usualy use some type of wepon to intimidate their victims

It's pretty simple. A pedophile is someone with a sexual attraction to children; some pedophiles never act on this desire and never hurt a child. A sex offender is someone who commits a sexually-motivated crime against a child (or someone else). If no distinction is made between the two, you may as well take anyone who's ever THOUGHT "You know, it would be so easy to slip that Hershey bar in my pocket", but didn't do it, and convict them of shoplifting. Our legal system is supposed to be based on presumption of innocence, after all! But something tells me a lot of your other respondents are not going to agree with me

A pedophile is someone who molests young children. A pedophile IS a sex offender, however not every sex offender is a pedophile. No, we cannot lump all the criminals together into one class. That would not be wise. Different crimes need different punishments. It's very complicated.

OK You have my vote for congress. You are very right. There should be no difference. However, to be labelled a paedophile is worse than being labelled a sex offender. A paedophile has obviously done the unthinkable, where as a sex offender could be a 18 year old boy that had sex with his 17 year old girlfriend and her parents turned him in.

Sex offender is a generic classification for anyone who has committed any sex crime. A pedophile is someone who commits a sex crime where the victim was a minor. While a sex offender may be of further danger to anyone, a pedophile is usually only dangerous to children.

A sex offender includes those who rape, incest and other sexual crimes besides an adult sexually abusing a child (which is the definition of a pedophile). As such a pedophile is part of a subset of the greater class of sex offenders. All pedophiles are sex offenders, but not all sex offenders are pedophiles.
Each crime is deserving of its own distinct punishment. While some may overlap when it comes to sex offenders and pedophiles because we're talking about a superset and subset, the punishment for rape, sexual abuse and other adult-to-adult crimes will by their nature differ.
