Families seem lost to modern troubles.
Two working parents.
Peer preasure.
T.V.
Whatever...

Despite it all, families have survived. There's something, even if just a lucky penny or secret recipe, that gives families a binding force beyond just blood.
Memories we hold on to, pass, if only as a thought or reaction, on to our own children.

So, looking for memories that bind. Traditions, even.

What are some of yours?

Some of mine?
When little, we used to all pile up on my mother's bed while she read the stories I wrote to the family.
We didn't have a lot of money, so, every x-mas, my siblings & I would spend a week baking cookies, fudge, cakes, & pies for family, friends, and more than a few strangers.
Didn't have t.v. much, so every sunday night, my father would gather us kids around the radio to listen to Dr Demento and play uno.

Eating my gramas' lemon meringue pie at Uncle Frank and Aunt Dora's house on Christmas eve. All us kids feasting on the desserts, our parents playing cards and laughing and dancing, wonderful memories (miss you Grama and aunt Dot)

I'm a mom of two and I make sure to keep our family priorities in tact. I home school. We all eat at the dinner table together (on the nights we're not carting the kids to football, tae kwon do, etc) TV time is limited. We schedule family game nights and family movie nights. As long as we can afford it I'll stay home until the kids are ready for college.

As for traditions from when I was growing up--I can't think of too many at the moment. None that seem really important. My dad recently abandoned us. He left my mom after 36 years together. Out of the blue he has no contact with me or my sibling and he has taken up with a woman who is not much older than me. She has three kids. He traded us in for a whole new family. So any memories I have are tainted.

Yeah, it is sad how times have changed so much, and families don't have the time or the ability to make memories or traditions together.

Some of my favorites were... and some still are...

Singing Christmas carols or Christian hymns around the piano
Reading goodnight stories to my children
Making snow ice cream with the first snow of the season
Playing games (indoor and outdoor) with the whole family... grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, etc...
Watching lunar and solar (safely) eclipses
Watching the meteor showers each summer and winter... even if the temperature was below freezing
Reading the Bible together

When we arrive in Heaven, we will not have anything to complain about or be saddened by. Revelation 21:4 tells us, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” For a detailed description of Heaven, see Revelation chapters 21-22. Once we arrive in Heaven, we will be glorified and perfect. Our hearts, attitudes, and thoughts will be completely in agreement with God (1 John 3:2). If some of our loved ones are not in Heaven, we will be in 100% complete agreement that they do not belong there – that they are condemned by their own refusal to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior (John 3:16; John 14:6). It is hard to understand this, but we will not be saddened by the lack of their presence. Our focus should not be on how we can enjoy Heaven without all of our loved ones there, but rather on how we can point our loved ones to faith in Christ – so that they will be there. those of us who make it to heaven, will know why we are there. not to congregate with others, not to worry about others, but to praise God. he will be our main focus in heaven. he is the reason we are there. b/c j.c. died for us, and we put our faith in him.

Not too many, but we used to make "donuts" by taking prepackaged bisquits, poking a hole in them with our finger, deep-frying in oil, and shaking in a bag of sugar.
