I assume you are worried about the medical exam? The link in the source box will tell you how great your body has to be. I'm not sure what kind of jobs you'd be looking for, but you've got at least another 20 years of working in front of you, probably more depending on what kind of job you want.

You are no wheres near too old. As with the vision...you can fly without 20/20 vision. Im currently in the US Army as an avation mechanic, and have put my packet in myself to become a pilot. I have my eyes corrected with glasses, and am wayyyy out of that 20/20 range. As far as the age goes...nope..not even close. We have pilots that are damn near 60 yrs old. Its all a matter on how much you want to do. Why not get both your rotary and fixed wing at the same time...it can be done. Well..good luck in whatever you decide.

Not at all, visit www.jetcareers.com and you will fine that many persons beyond their 40's are becoming career changers to become pilots, you still have 20 years untill you will have to retire from commercial flying since the FAA put the age 60 year for commercial flying. But after that you can flight instruct some more.

It will cost you a bundle ($50K) but you can do it. The pay and job opportunities are not the best as a rookie but if it is what you really want....

It's not too late, the question is more often....do I have the money to pursue this. If it were not for the military, I'd never have my commerical license considering that renting a simple Bell 206 helicopter can cost $500/hour. Of course, there are always piston powered helicopters like the Robinson, but those are still more expensive than most fixed wing aircraft.

It is not too late. There age limit to be employed as an airline pilot is 60, but there are plenty of job available to commercial pilots well after that age too. Its never too late, go learn to fly now!!!

Go for it! There may not be much demand for an older pilot without so many hours...but that doesn't mean you won't find a situtation that will give you a shot.

Besides, the fun is the learning and the accomplishment.

I don't think so. My father is a commercial helicopter pilot and he's in his 60's. You've got more time. Go for it, and good luck!
