I bought a portable DVD player. It's power plug converts AC electricity to 9 Volt/2.2 Amps. I bought an external rechargable battery for it so we would have an extra six hours to watch movies while traveling. The rechargable battery has an output of 9 Volts/4300 mAh and is plugged into the same DVD power port as the AC line would be plugged into if it were being used with house current. Am I going to blow up the player with to much electric input, or does the 4300 mAh mean something else besides Amps being provided by the battery? Thanks for any info.

Probably this will work, except that you will only get about 2 hours play time.

Possible problems: It is possible the the adapter puts out 9V AC, not DC. Then a battery won't work. Check the printing on the adapter carefully. It will tell you the output is either AC or DC.

The 4300 mAh tells you how long the battery will put out a lower level of current, not the maximum current. It's not likely, but the 2 amp requirement might be more than the battery can tolerate.

the 4300 mAh refers to the amount of current draw available from the battery. Normally the higher the figure the more power the battery can supply for high drain equipment like digital cameras with flash. In my house phone I put higher rated battery's because they also tend to last longer

No, you wont be blowing anything at all.

mAh stands for Milli Ampere hour as in the juice of batteries after a Full Charge as in how long will it be able to power your DVD palyer @ 9V. More is better.

Disclaimer: this is based on my experience and assuming that both apliance are recomended by respective manufacturers and working properly.

If the battery runs the player you are ok. The player will only draw as much power as it needs. The 4300mah is just the total capacity of the battery when fully charged.
