hi there! This is a good question, I've been suffering from dysmennorhea since I was 14. It hurts a lot when I get my First day of period. I take pain killers because I couldnt take the pain. But you can try another thing that works, get a glass bottle and fill it with warm water. And then cover it with a thin cloth(you dont want to burn your skin), then put the warm bottle of water in the area where you feel the pain, which is in the lower abdominal area.
I've been doing this for 2 years now and it works for me.

try using a contraceptive pill - it will ease the pain a little and when your hormones is under control, the spasm of tour uterus wont be so bad. use heating pads or a hot water bottle - it will heat up the uterus and relax the muscle spams. otherwise a pain killer is the best option - but it usually makes one drowsy. try using a muscle relaxer like acurate or tensodol - but they are still a type of pain killer. good luck

best way that has worked for numerous women is birth control pills. on the downside you might gain weight and become a little moody. on the upside you don't have to worry about getting pregnant.

I control it with rosemary tea, heating pads, and a low salt, low sugar diet.
