It's all in how it was said.
Try this exercise....
Put emphasis on only the first word of the following sentence....
"I didn't say you were stupid."
The way you just said it means that it was someone else who said they were stupid.
Now try putting emphasis on the second word...
The way you said the sentence this time states that you did not say this at all.
Now try putting emphasis on the third word, fourth word, etc.
You will find that the meaning of the sentence changes every time you emphasize a different word.
What did you learn from this? I hope you learned that when you're talking to others, you should careful about how you are saying things - because in most cases, it's not what you're saying but how you're saying it that hurts feelings.

Things get misinterpreted a lot on the internet because we just type the words. When you are talking in person you can see their eyes and body movements and hear the tone of their voice. Don't get upset if someone takes something the wrong way here. You can't figure out if they are serious or joking.

Selective attention and some other thing.
Try this experiment.
Tell your friend you are going to read a list of 11 words and after you are done you want them to write down as many as they can remember.
Tired, eat, rest, relax, bed, comfort, snore, refresh, dream, stretch, awake,
See how many people list sleep. It isn't on the list. The brain just fills in the blanks.

Because some people think totally negative, while others always think in a positive way. Then when you get a negative and a positive thinker together, you get BIG trouble.

Because you can't always know what somebody else is thinking or feeling. It's sad, but true.
