The Character of a Godly Man:
Psalm 1:1-3 Ref.
Christian men willing to answer the Lord’s call to live godly lives in an unrighteous world. A man with this mindset will understand the importance of:
Ordering his life with Christian counsel. A God-fearing man is not too self-sufficient or proud to ask for help. He seeks biblical counsel regularly so that he can succeed according to God’s principles. He is open to advice based on scriptural truths, whether for his home life, personal finances, or business matters. Many of us, however, are prone to seek opinions from those who appear successful, even if they do not share our faith. How wise can ungodly men be when they have chosen to live without God? How smart are we when we seek their advice?
Limiting his deepest friendships to fellow believers. Only the like-minded — those who love Jesus and desire to follow Him — are suitable to be intimate friends of a believer. Remember, our companions can influence us positively or negatively. Those who reject Jesus will never guide us toward Him. Those who are casual in their faith can influence us away from God’s standards. While the Lord expects us to relate to all sorts of people, it is wise to restrict our “inner circle” to Christ-followers.
Being committed to defending the truth. Concerned with the things of the Lord and His church, a godly man will TAKE A STAND against the profane use of Jesus’ name. Not only will he speak the truth about unrighteous patterns of behavior and their destructiveness; he will also oppose ridicule of the Bible or other Christians. Ref. Psalms 1;3 Jer 17:8 14:1 12: 1-2

The way of the cross is the way Jesus walked. It is where His followers follow Him. Just as He said, "The one who doesn't take up his cross and follow me isn't worthy of me. The one who finds his life will lose it, and the one who loses his life because of me will find it." (Matthew 10:38-39)

The way of the cross is filled with suffering on the part of the Christian. We are hated by the world, we are persecuted (More martyrs have been killed in the 20th century than all the previous ones combined.), we are called to a life of denial, but have a hope of eternal life and glory after that.

The way of the cross is often painful, and can result in death. But after death comes the resurrection.

That's when a salesman tells you how good a car is then when you get it out of the show room, you know you been crossed and that's the way they live.
Another example is when a preacher says he is there to collect God's 10% from every sheep, er, member, and he keeps it and spends if on a new Benz. But that is OK because it is just God's way of showing the worldly sinners that God's people, the marks, er, faithful, are rewarded by God.

When Jesus died on the cross it was salf sacrificing (unselfish) and in obedience to the Father. To live like that, in obedience to God and thinking of others first it what Jesus was talking about when He told us to take up our cross daily and follow Him.

It means you have no righteousness of your own, you, by faith, look solely to the redemptive work Jesus did at the cross, both to save you and to sanctify you. "The just shall live by faith"

live your life as much as Christ did. You cant, but you try to.
You try to imitate him in life.
You dont get to Heaven by how good you are or obeying laws, but by his grace alone. Still, he wants you to try and be as much like him as you possibly can with no pressure.

It means to indulge in self-persecution or what is known as a 'persecution complex' and like most religious behavior, is more than a little twisted.
