I have chosen an Autumn/Fall theme for my wedding, my colour scheme is burnt orange, rusty brown and white. I am struggling to find some ideas for my invites/menu's etc. Does anyone have any good ideas to pass on to me? Any websites that can be helpful? Please help!

Hello.. everyone already gave you great websites and books to help you, but a little more inspiration or ideas never hurt...

Food: Try a thanksgiving setting. With turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mash potatoes, gravy and pumpkin pie.

Decorations: Find silk leaves. Use them on the buffet table, and you could use them as centerpieces also. You could put them in bowls and add water and floating candles. Look at craft stores and get fake trees (or real ones) and put twinkle lights in them. You could find fall leaf garlands and put them on the guest book table, cake table, over the doorways, etc. Find tulle in your colors and tie bows around the chairs with leaves tied into them. Tablecloths in your colors. You could also use pine cones or pumpkins in your center pieces or on your buffet/cake/guest book/present table.

Flowers: Fall has beautiful flowers! Pick flowers in your colors and incorporate leaves into the bouquet and boutonnieres.

Favors: Get leaf shaped candles and wrap them in circle tulle, or leaf shaped cookies in cute boxes.

Just an idea: Instead of having guests throw birdseed or rice at you, get small wood rods and tie long ribbon on the ends of them in your colors. Have guests hold them high and shake them around when you exit. It looks really pretty and no mess! Then they can take them home after.

Hope this gives you some good inspiration. Congrats and good luck!!

That's my theme too. My main color will be burnt orange and I think I may accent it with a deep crimson.

There are some great menus and seating charts and other things at documentsanddesigns.com but they are a little pricey to me.

I want the letterpress invitations at marsville.com that are burnt orange with leaves on them.

There are also some good autumn things in old Martha Stewart wedding magazines if you can get a hold of them at a secondhand shop.

For centerpieces we are having mismatched Goodwill baskets of organic apples from the farmer's market accented with autumn leaves. Guests can take home the baskets of apples if they want, or we will donate them to the food bank afterwards.

Email me and I will send you a few pics of ideas I'm considering.

I also recommend this book-- Miss Manners on Weddings-- it's indispensible.

If you check out the message boards at theknot.com (listed as 'talk' at the top of the main page) there's a fall board that is very helpful.

You could serve traditional Thanksgiving type or anything you want. You could even have a dessert reception with various autumn-y desserts. Some yummy fall cake flavors are pumpkin, apple, cranberry orange, carrot.

Walmart's craft section and Joann's have lots of pretty inexpensive fabrics and other decorations you can utilize.

www.askginka.com is another good place to check out.

Assuming you are having an outdoor and/or nonreligious ceremony, you could walk down the aisle to "Autumn" by Vivaldi, "Autumn Leaves" by Nat King Cole or "Watch The Wind Blow By" by Tim McGraw.

If you're crafty at all, you can make your own invites with cardstock in your colors and rubberstamps. Or check out www.funnybuggy.com or www.momentsofcolor.com www.gaddisdesign.com has lots of autumn styles in their gallery.

Well....you can have it at VFW or at the woman's center (I think they are gorgeous) - check out the woman's center in Montclair- they have a beautiful space and it is very inexpensive to rent out. You can also try FIESTA in lyndhurst on rt. 17 (google it) - the prices are reasonable (they start at $55 a person with everything included). As far as food - if you decide to have it at a location such as FIESTA (they have pretty good low prices) you may see if you can hold a brunch instead of dinner - have it for 4hours instead of 5 or 6 and hold it on a Sunday or Friday evening. As far as a photographer (something I would personally splurge on) may be really expensive - you can give each table a disposable camera and have ppl take pictures and maybe have a family member take the other pictures of yourselves...etc. DJ - go local - college kids especially centerpieces and decoration - go with candles! (there is much debate about the candle) but i'm sure there is a way to make it look nice - it would give it a nice intimate and warm feeling. Invitations - do them yourselves!! save a lot of money - but you will def. need the time to do them well...i ran out of ideas...but good luck!

I'll tell you what I tell everyone I know who's getting married. The best book I've ever read on weddings --and I read a lot, and because it breaks down the whole thing really well is Bridal Bargains.

the site: theknot.com helped me tremendously!!!

also --martha stewart has a weddings 5 dvd set that I think would be really helpful to see examples of what you like, what you don't like and whatnot.

I used a stamp and embossing ink and powder (and embossing tool which is a hairdryer without wind.). and used it on my invitations, favors, everything. this was a TON of work, though.

But you could do a leaves theme --find a stamp you like and put it on everything that way. . .
(could get just a plain panel black ink invitation and decorate it with a stamp yourself. . .) also we did our own programs --typed it up on the computer, went to kinkos and ran it through once and reduced the size of the type on the copy machine, then got nice paper and photocopied it two sheets of reduced type onto one page, folded them in half and decorated the front and the back with the embossing stamping.

a site I saw suggested marzipan fruit on the cake. I liked that idea.

you could also give marzipan fruit as favors?

for the menu --what kind of food do you really love? meats are more expensive. a pasta station is good for vegetarians. . .

wedding favor ideas: cookies shaped as leaves? soap in leaf shapes? http://www.myweddingfavors.com/fall-autumn-wedding-favors.html

more: http://www.beau-coup.com/fall_wedding_favors.htm

another favor idea:
"Thank your guests with caramel apple kit favors that are simply delightful and simple to make. It's as easy as throwing an apple, a Popsicle stick, some caramels, and a recipe into a bag (the right bag, of course) all tied up with a pretty ribbon."

best of luck to you!!!!

p.s. I watched lots of wedding shows on cable too. That helped me a lot for ideas and visualizations and figuring out what I wanted or didn't want.

also --something else that helped me a lot was to have both he and I write down what the top 5 things that were really important to us each individually for our wedding. (in this case --it could be for your food and your favors.). that way you can know what to let go of and what is important to you. . .

and get a wedding coordinator! she saved my life the day of the wedding!!!!

A fall wedding that I went to use sunflowers and other "fall" flowers in the bouquets. The centerpieces at the tables were candles surronded by beautiful orange, yellow and red leaves. The bridesmaid dresses were a copper color. It was very, very beautiful.

Not sure exactly the formality of invitations you are looking for, but check out the sources, I've tried to put a good cross section of the ones I think are nice.

The latter of the sources has some ideas on centerpieces and general decor.

Good luck, have fun & congratulations!!!!

My best friend had a Fall wedding and it was beautiful. In the church, there were tons of fall leaves of different colors covering the floor and stage. For menu, you could always do something Thanksgiving-ish or something roasted.

Use fall leaves to decorate the tables. See if you can find candles the colors of your wedding and you will have a very nice center piece. Martha Stewart's website was very helpful in planning my wedding.
