Yes, the saving Grace of Jesus Christ is available to all. But you can't just SAY the words, you have to MEAN them.

TRUTH: If you wait until then there is a good chance you are not serious. Salvation requires repentance (turning from sin...to Christ Jesus) Now, if you are sincere you would go to heaven. But if you are not, you won't...God is Judge. Salvation is of a contrite heart, a truly repentant heart for sinning against the Lord God. If you are hoping to live in sin until the day you THINK you may die... then try to accept Jesus... You are in for a terrible surprise. This is NOT how God works. Read the Bible and see.

Two very hard questions for humans to answer.
First you ask: "Is it hard to get to Heaven?" -- No one alive knows, sorry, but true.
Second question: "When I'm at a point, just before dying, and I realize it, is it too late to be accepted?" -- No, you can be forgiven by GOD at the final second, because IT IS UP TO GOD - NOT HUMANS TO DECIDE IF YOU GET TO ENTER HEAVEN.
Humans would not allow as many into heaven as GOD does, because humans do not understand what GOD is doing. (This falls into the question - will murderers gain entrance into heaven - no one knows.)
You'll get long answers with steps or whatever, but no humans knows GOD, or HIS plan.
Also a deep sincere talk with GOD will always be heard, but ACTIONS ARE IMPORTANT - LIVE AS GOD HAS INSTRUCTED US, always helps to work with not against the rules. (That's why Jesus came and reduced the number to just 2! Humans had to much trouble with 10, they placed modifications to them, and loop holes, etc.)

First off God is not stupid. So if you think you can live your whole life in sin and then make things right at the last minute you're wrong. God will not be maniplated into letting you into hevaen.

As for your question. All a person has to do to be saved and forgiven of their sins is this.

Recognize that your a sinner and you need to be forgiven.
Repent of Sin
Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior trusting that He is God that He died for your Sin that His death paid the penalty for your sin and that He rose from the grave.

Realize what? ........ you can't even say it. Honestly, I don't know the answer. You'll know when you get there I guess. If you believe in a heaven or a hell (seems strange to create such a place (hell that is) if your are all loving and forgiving according to the written word).

Ask the person on the cross next to Jesus. But why take the chance that you will get that chance at the last minute

It's never too late to be accepted. Just proclaim your belief just before you die.
I hope God isn't too picky.
