Direct current means that the current doesn't change direction. In other words, there is a constant flow of electrons from minus to plus. It is these electrons that let you recharge a battery, for example. And batteries produce direct current as well.
Alternating current means that the current changes direction, usually tens of times a second. As a result, the electrons don't really move anywhere, they just kind of wiggle back and forth in one place. This still creates electric energy that you can use, for example, to power your lights. Because the current must change direction, it means that the voltage is not constant, but varies sinusoidally between its positive and negative peaks (60V, in the case of your wall outlet).

In direct current (D.C.)charges are only flowing in one direction, but in alternative current(A.C.) ,the charges direction
change alternatively by time,so AC current has frequency that is rate of repitition.

alternating current : the amplitude varies from 0 Volts to its max value (220 Volt for instance), usually 50 Hz meaning 50 times per second.
direct current : it doesnt vary it constant at say 9 Volts.
Generators gives alternating current , while batteries gieves direct current,

Well, you're probably refering to Alternating Current (not alternative current)...
The simple answer is as follows:
Alternating current is an electrical current that changes it's direction and magnitude.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternating_current
Direct current is an electrical current that remains constant in it's direction.

do you mean the difference between alternating and direct current? well AC is seen almost in a parallel connection and DC is in series connection! example is your celfone charger which is DC while your house connections like the lights are AC

well there are lots of advantages and disadvantages...
like AC can be stepped up or down as per the requirement using transformers where as in DC this is not possible doing it in a single step....
Due to the presence of frequency component hysterisis and eddy current losses are incurred in AC where as in DC its not present
like this the list goes on
i hope this link would help you
