Okay, we just adopted two kittens around a week ago and they are around... uhh, nine weeks old... I think. The problem here is that they do not properly clean themselves and they like to paly in their litter box. Yes! What the hell is wrong with them? Why in the world do they keep playing in there? Is there something that I can do to stop them from jumping in there? We already bathed them twice this week, but they are beginning to smell again! (We washed them TWO days ago!). All they do is like their legs and paws, and that is not much help!

HI there...Kittens tend to find the sand fun to fling about as well as lay in it as it smells of themselves which provides a sense of security. For example if you have had the chance to visit a shelter or a place where kitties are adopted you may have noticed many cats sleeping in their own litterboxes. Stressed cats feel more secure sleeping/sitting in their stinky boxes as it smells like themselves and they consider this a familiar scent.

Anyhow, kittens are curious and like teenagers they will need a little help with some positive distractions in order to help stop playing in the sandbox. It's helpful to consider hanging some kitty toys from string on something (like a doorknob) nearby as well as leaving other toys lying around the box. Be sure to wiggle the toys to get their attention so they know where all are located. Also spend a few moments playing with them with these toys on a regular basis so that it draws their attention to the toys over the sandbox.

Sometimes kittens need a little help with grooming as well. As an alternative to bathing consider using unscented babywipes. After they have been thoroughly wiped they will be damp which helps the cats learn to groom their whole bodies as most cats prefer their own scent.

Have a little patience as they will learn to use the box strictly for only personal business. However, pease remember to avoid any type of punishment as it actually can create more problems with litter box. The reason is that cats will learn to associate the box to punishment and later then inappropriately soil elsewhere around the home to avoid that terrible place. The box must be a rewarding experience at all times so that there's no chance of any accidents elsewhere in the home. If they do have an accident in the future around the home then you will be able to recognize that there's a good chance that it is something medically (like hormones when they become sexually mature at 5/6 months or a bladder infection, etc) is causing the problem rather than them avoiding the box because it is a bad place.

No question is a stupid question when you want to be successful at creating a healthy and happy home environment. i bought some cat and flea bath stuff and then after that i put some real good smelling bath foam soap on my kitten and she smells real good...i also rub her until she is dry...i clean my litter box about twice a week and sometimes more...but two kittens is going to make more of a mess than one kitten..so you may have to clean the litter box out more often...and i doubt there is a way to get them to use separate litter boxes is there...maybe you will just to have to give them time to do better....but you might separate them and put litter boxes in separate rooms and only let them be together a few hours a day

umm. they are KITTENS. And like human babies, they are just exploring their new world, so nothing is wrong with them! Maybe if you purchase some toys for them, they will become more interested in playing with the toys than with the litterbox, which is just a new toy to them right now. Also, you probably need to be spending more time with the kittens-- as with most animals, and particularly baby animals, if they do not get enough attention, they will tend to 'act out.' Again, just like human children.
And I most certainly do not agree with the prior advice to smack the kittens on the head. That's just cruel-- and you could run into bigger trouble if the kittens associate pain or fear with using the litterbox, i.e. they may decide to go elsewhere to potty!!

I easily have 4 cats that are throughout me perpetually and as quickly as I get any of my snakes out the cats and my canine the two forget approximately approximately it or lick it, none of my snakes have ever struck. So in answer it somewhat is surprisingly no longer likely that a snake will chew you in case you scent like cat, now if the snakes nutrition is cat then this could be a distinctive tale and if it somewhat is the case then frequently definite it is going to so i does not try it.

It smells like them, so that is why they are playing in it. They will learn to bathe themselves. Try cleaning the litter box more frequently (worth a shot)

My kitten loves to sit on the carpet outside his litter box which we used to get the litter from his paws when he exit after use. My method which other don't usually agree with but works, is a knock on the head with my fingers not hard but no soft either and a loud no. Now the no itself works just as well.
