I am a natural brunette & I have been having caramel highlights put in my hair for about 2 years now but I am wanting to go back to my natural haircolor. I am skittish about letting a "professional" do this because of past experiences with them getting it way too dark, but I am also scared to try to do it myself. Anyone ever had this trouble? What is the best way to fix it?

When,I Got A Brown Streak Put In My Hair,For Twists,The Color Got WAYYY To Dark,So I Stopped Paying $50.00 For Twists,And $45.00 For Color. So I Basically Was Paying $95.00 And So I Started Coloring My Own Hair,And I Started Getting Mini Micro Braids.Which Is WAYY Cheaper. My Mini Micro's Cost Me $30.00 And Then The Hair Dye Only Cost $5.00.So I Pay $35.00 And Thats Way Cheaper. So I Would Sugguest You Highlight Your Own Hair. Its Easier,And Doesent Really Cost More Then $10.00

Yes, I'm a natural brunette who has been getting caramel highlights for years as well, and like you, I like to go natural once in a while. All I do is use Nutrisse 50 (Natural Medium Brown). After a few good shampoos, your highlights will re-appear, just use the same color again in 3 weeks. It won't be too dark. ;)

Ive never had my hair coloured because im just not allowed to. But what i think would be best is that you let your roots grow out and try to find a colour that is closest to your roots. Then just after you dye, leave it alone and just let the roots grow out all the way out, so you end up with your natural haircolour. I know that sounds like a really long process cause that is. It's taking my friend more than a year to get back her natural haircolour, but this is my opinion, if you want your natural haircolour. My friend just left her hairdye grow out. From a dirty blonde to a brown.

Go to a professional and ask about a semi or demi permanent hair color to do a tint back. They are fool proof because they have little or no ammonia so they do damage and you will not have a line of demarcation when you natural color starts to grow back in. They also fade as you shampoo them so if it is too dark, just shampoo it a few extra times. Good luck!

I would go to a hairdresser that specializes in color. Sometimes doing it on your own can lead to disastrous results! Your chances are better with someone who does this professionally! And remember, when your hair is highlighted, sometimes the highlighted hair tends to grab the color more and can appear darker. But don't worry, it will lighten after a few shampoos!

Try using a semi-permanent dye ... one that washes out after 20 washes or so. When I have used it, it didn't completely wash out of the lighter areas of my hair, but it did wash out of my un-dyed roots. I just kept on using it every once in a while when I noticed the highlights starting to show up again....and I didn't have to worry about getting the colour perfect.

I am also a natural brunette with highlights.
I color my hair myself and I have found that using Hydrience with Grey Magic really works great. You can get Grey Magic at a beauty shop. I hope this helps.

ok heres the answer you need,, go to the store and buy a color that is one shade lighter than your natural color, (it always is darker when finished ) that should fix the problem, but remember that there should be no cost to get a consultation with a colorist of quality, they should have a portfolio of their work, so you can make an educated choice with your hair,

put on a shade that is only slighty darker and gradually darken your hair. Also JOhn Freida hair glaze for brunettes deposits a very minimal amount of color every time you use it so no one will notice you are even changing your hair.
