My goal is for my wife to see the US while I have some free airline tickets and to see the family. I have about a month and a half before we are scheduled to leave. We are leaving mainland Japan going to okinawa so I just want to work the immigrant visa later after I PCS. Also curious how long the tourist visa takes.

How long it will take for your wife to get a tourist visa depends on the workload of the consular section where she will apply. Check here to find out what their backlog is:

What branch of service are you in? Check with your local JAG or SJA office. If you had command's approval to marry there shouldn't be a problem. Things work a little differently for military families.
