They say you can get ink poisoning. I'm a mechanic of 30+ years. Write on my hands all the time. If there is a problem, I would have discovered it a long time ago. But, I only write lightly. I don't think repetitive, heavy markings would be good for you.

this actually comes from old inks and is now a wives tale. Ink used to come from either octopus ink bladders or plant dyes. Octopus ink is meant to be an irritant, to distract and blind preditors in the wild. While i'm not well versed on plant dyes, I know that some plants have their own irritants. Nowadays dyes are made with synthetics. while no one is sure if these have carcinogens (for instance red dye # 40 has been shown to cause cancer in lab mice) it is a distinct possablitiy that pen ink has benzene neuculi can cause cancer, but it's unlikely.

sometimes if you do it often, the ink will seep through ur skin and can potentially end up in your blood, which is obviously not good. however, a little writing here and there wont hurt you, just dont make really long notes and dark things--press gently when writing so it wont end up running through ur blood stream. and there is such thing as taking notes on paper! no offense though, because i know what you mean--paper isnt always around to write on when u need it

Its no longer true, no harm done! Back in the day, with old pens and the ink they used there was lead in it, which your skin could absorb and you COULD get lead poisoning, if you wrote like all over your body.

Nope. Been doing it for years & not had any problems. However, I would suggest that you avoid poking pencil lead into your skin, that could most definitely cause difficulty.

i have known lots of people that write on their hands with ink....and think of all the people that get tattoos and that is imprinted into their skin...i do not really think writing on your hand is going to hurt you...you just have to wash it off...if you were to puncture your skin with the pen then you might get it infected or something....

It is false! Unless you puncture your skin, then it is fine. Ive been doing it for years on my same hand at least every other day and my skin is fine!

They used to tell us you could get blood poisoning from it, which I think is false. But I agree with the other answer that it's tacky (and kind of dirty) looking.
